Don’t let your guard down!

On 12th day morning, Drona arranged Kaurava army in a Garuda formation & Pāndavas countered arranging their army in a semi-circle. As soon as the Trigartas entered the battlefield they challenged Arjun. As a kshatriya Arjun could not refuse & so he approached Yudhisthira to take permission before fighting the samsaptakas

At that time Yudhisthira expressed his anxiety about Drona’s vow to capture him & so Arjun appointed Satyajit as his protector & assured him by saying: O King! As long as this hero lives, the Preceptor will never be able to capture you. However, if Satyajit dies, you must immediately leave the battlefield, no matter who else may come to your rescue

When the Kauravas saw Arjun depart to fight the Trigartas, they became very eager to capture Yudhisthira. The Trigartas had jubilantly awaited the chance to combat Arjun, but when the son of Kunti blew his Devdatta conch shell, all the samsaptakas become practically motionless due to fear & their horses stood petrified with wide-open eyes while passing urine & vomiting blood

After regaining their composure, the Trigartas rushed at Arjun, showering their arrows upon him. When Arjun retaliated, the Trigartas became so afflicted that they soon retreated towards the Kaurava ranks. Seeing this Susarmān severely chastised his warriors for their cowardice. When the Trigartas rallied, the Nārāyana cowherds came to their aid. Thus, innumerable chariot warriors surrounded Arjun & so he invoked a Tvastā weapon, causing thousands of duplicate Arjunas to manifest miraculously

Upon seeing this incredible display of illusory mystic power, the Nārayana cowherds became so bewildered that they began killing one another, thinking them to be either Arjun or Krsna. While the Nārayana cowherds were thus thrown into confusion, Arjun attacked the Trigartas, but these samsaptakas fought back so heroically that his chariot became invisible, being covered by dense showers of arrows

Thinking that Arjun must have been killed, The Trigartas waved their cloths & shouted with great joy. At that time Lord Krsna inquired: O son of Kunti! I can’t see you anymore. Are you still alive?

Without replying, Arjun quickly employed a vayavya weapon that created a raging wind, blowing away all the enemy’s arrows. In fact, after being invoked, Vāyu carried away many of the Trigartas along with their weapons & horses, as if they were so many heaps of straw. As the Trigartas continued to be afflicted by the hurricane winds, Arjun was able to slaughter them by the hundreds with his arrows

One should never let down his guard, without being doubly sure of the situation. A premature celebration is very dangerous. The enemy is always looking for a crack in the door to hurt when you least expect it. We always need to be alert & have a sober mind. If not, then enemy is always on the prowl like a roaring lion looking to devour

Even the bravest men need strength to stand guard at all times
