Never Fall down!
Arjun released an Agni weapon that brightly lit up entire
sky. Karna invoked a Varuna weapon that quenched the fire by creating clouds
with a Vayavya weapon & then released a favourite weapon of Indra that made
thousands of arrows issues forth from his Gāndiva bow
While being pierced all over, Karna countered Aindra
weapon with a Bhārgava weapon & proceeded to kill many of the
foremost Pāncāla warriors. Seeing this, Bhima’s anger blazed up like fire. He
chastised his brother by saying: O Arjun, how can you allow these great
warriors to be killed within your very sight? Please remember how Karna had
insulted Draupadi? Give up your indifference & kill him without delay!
Sri Krsna said: Dear Arjun, you must exert your full
prowess now, if need be, you can take help from my Sudarshan Cakra!
After momentarily considering the purpose of his
appearance in this world, Arjun replied: Lord, with your permission as well as
that of Lord Brahmā & Lord Sivā, I will now invoke the Brahmāstra
After
saying this, Arjun invoked the supremely powerful weapon. Karna immediately
neutralized it with his own Brahmāstra before the weapon could even leave
Arjuna’s bowstring. Seeing this, Bhima became even more agitated & ordered
Arjun to release another Brahmāstra. Arjun did this & at once Brahmāstra
began shrouding Karna’s chariot with countless arrows & at the same time
killed innumerable Kaurav soldiers
Karna
remained undisturbed and he continued to pierce Krsna, Arjun, Bhima with
arrows. In response Arjun, in rage pierced Karna & at the same time
slaughtered 400 elephants, 800 chariot warriors, 1000 cavalry soldiers &
8000 infantry. Still, Karna continued massacring Pāndava soldiers in a similar
manner
Karna
suddenly pierced Sri Krsna with 5 arrows piercing thro’ his armor. These arrows
were actually 5 serpents that sought revenge for Arjuna’s killing of Asvasena’s
mother at the time when Agni had devoured Khāndava forest. After piercing Krsna
these 5 serpents entered earth, penetrating lower planets. After bathing in
Bhogwati river, they returned to Karna’s quiver. Arjun was extremely angry
seeing this & quickly killed the 5 serpents. He then pierced Karna deeply,
making him tremble with pain
As
the fierce duel progressed, it looked that one would prevail over other, but it
changed quickly. The serpent Asvasena, then entered an arrow in Karna’s quiver,
assuming a subtle form. Ever since his mother was killed, he harbored hatred
for Arjun & now hoped to gain revenge
Karna
remembered the special arrow he had worshipped with hope of killing Arjun. In
fact, Karna considered Arjun incapable of being slain by any other means &
so he picked that arrow, which was the one Asvasena had entered by his mystic
power. When Karna placed that wonderful arrow on bowstring, meteors & thunderbolt
began falling from sky & all directions seemed ablaze
Karna
released that arrow while shouting: O Arjun, you are killed!
As
that blazing arrow soared thro’ the sky, Sri Krsna hurriedly pressed down
Arjuna’s chariot with His feet, making it sink into the earth a full meter. As
a result, his horses fell to their knees & the arrow released by Karna
struck off Arjuna’s crown
Arjun
was saved by Sri Krsna’s grace!
When
we are surrendered at the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord, we don’t have to
worry about our well-being. In fact the anxiety of our protection lies with the
Lord. Krsna assures us
kaunteya
pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati
O
Arjun, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes
The
devotee puts Sri Krsna within his heart, and thus all sinful contaminations are
naturally washed away. Continuous thinking of the Supreme Lord makes him pure
by nature & he is saved from all fall downs
