Sauti continued telling story to sages at Naimish forest-Sage Bhrigu’s son Chyavana begot a son in the womb of his wife Sukanya, called Pramati, who from his wife Ghritachi begot a son called Ruru. And Ruru with his wife Pramadvara got a son called Sunaka I will now tell you more about Ruru There was a Rsi called Sthulakesha possessing ascetic powers. At that time Viswavasu, king of Gandharvas had intimacy with Apsara Menaka, the celestial dancing girl. She gave birth to a girl but out of shame she dropped the infant on the banks of a river. As the destitute mother went away, Rsi Sthula found the girl forsaken on river side. The girl was dazzling & extremely beautiful. Rsi was filled with compassion brought her under his protection. She grew up learning all the fine arts from her foster father, who named her Pramadvara Pious Ruru once saw Pramadvara & immediately fell in love with her. Then Fire god (Agni), alter reflecting for a while, withdrew himself-from places of daily homa of Brahmanas, from all long-extending sacrifices, from places of holy rites, & from other ceremonies. Without their Oms & Vashats, and deprived of their Swadhas & Swahas (sacrificial mantras during offerings), all beings became much distressed at the loss of sacrificial fire The Rsis in great anxiety went to gods & addressed them-O immaculate beings! The 3 regions of universe are confounded at the cessation of their sacrifices & ceremonies in consequence of loss of fire! Ordain what is to be done in this matter, so that there may be no loss of time. Then Rsis & gods went together to the presence of Brahma, & represented to him all about the curse on Agni by sage Bhrigu & consequent interruption of all ceremonies They said to Brahma-Agni has been cursed by Bhrigu for some reason.   Stereotyping in haste! Sauti said-As the demon saw the infant drop from his mother’s womb, shining like sun, he quitted his grasp of Puloma. The demon fell down & was instantly converted to ashes. The beautiful Puloma picked up her son Chyavana and came back to Sage Bhrigu's abode Lord Brahma, saw the faultless wife of his son Bhrigu, weeping incessantly & comforted her. Drops of tears rolled down Puloma’s eyes, forming a great river which began to follow her footsteps. Brahma seieing this named the river Vadhusara As Puloma returned, Bhrigu saw his child Chyavana & his beautiful mother & with its ascetic powers understood what had happened. In rage he asked Puloma, how the demon came to know about her & resolved to carry her away.   Do we? Sauti said to sages-I graphically described to you history of Utanka, which is one of the causes of King Janmejaya’s snake sacrifice. Now what you would like to hear & what I shall relate to you? The sages said-we would like to listen to sacred stories on a variety of subjects & history of all wise men. But at first place, we want to listen about Bhrigu   Sauti spoke about exalted race of sage Bhrigu, revered by Indra & all gods and by the tribes of Rsis & Maruts. Sage Bhrigu-was given birth by self-existing Brahma from fire sacrifice of Varuna. Bhrigu had a son named Chyavana, who he dearly loved. To Chyavana was born a virtuous son called Pramati. whose son was Ruru by Ghritachi (celestial dancer). To Ruru, by his wife Pramadvara was born a son named Sunaka, who was devoted to asceticism, of great reputation, proficient in law & eminent in knowledges of Vedas   Sages asked Sauti to first tell them why was Bhrigu’s son was called Chyavana?   Sauti replied-

  Choice is ours! As Utanka came back with earrings, his Guru Sage Veda asked why it has taken him so much time to return. Utanka explained that due to obstruction offered by the serpent king Takshaka, he had to go to nether regions of Nagas Utanka asked sage if he can explain meaning of what he saw on his way. As I was going, I saw 2 damsels sitting at a loom, weaving a fabric with black & white threads, what does it mean? I also beheld a wheel with 12 spokes ceaselessly turned by 6 boys. What it implies? Who is also the man that I saw? And what that horse of extraordinary size seen by me represent? And when I was on road, I also saw a bull with a man mounted on it. He said-Eat the dung of this bull. So, I ate the dung according to the man’s words. Who was he? Pls enlighten me Sage Veda said-2 damsels that you saw are Dhata & Vidhata, black & white threads denote night & day, wheel of 12 spokes turned by 6 boys signifies the year comprising 6 seasons.
