Emotions!

As Rāksasās led by Ghatotkaca attacked, only Asvattāma remained firm & dispelled their illusions. Ghatotkaca rushed at Asvattāma, but the son of Drona drove him back with a forceful stream of arrows. The son of Ghatotkaca, named Anjanaparva joined the fray, showering his arrows upon Asvattāma, but Drona’s son quickly retaliated by knocking down his flag, killing his two drivers, breaking his bow & at last killing his horses

Anjanaparva flew into the sky & began showering trees upon Asvattāma. In retaliation the son of Drona afflicted him so severely that the Rāksasā soon had to return to the shelter of his chariot. Asvattāma discharged a fierce arrow that took away Anjanaparva’s life & then continued to slaughter many other Pāndava warriors

Ghatotkaca became terribly aggrieved seeing the death of his son & so he rushed at Asvattāma while challenging him. In the spectacular duel that followed the entire sky became lit up by the sparks produced as countless arrows collided with one another. Ghatotkaca assumed various forms, such as a huge mountain & a thundering cloud that showered huge stones. Asvattāma fearlessly destroyed all these illusory displays with his celestial weapons & while doing so he exterminated an incredible number of soldiers, including 100 000 chariot warriors

Thereafter, when Ghatotkaca once again attacked Asvattāma, along with his vast army of Rāksasās, he pierced Drona’s son deeply, making him tremble & then broke his bow. Asvattāma quickly picked up another bow & commenced a great slaughter of Rāksasā army. Enraged Ghatotkaca hurled the effulgent Asani weapon, but the son of Drona quickly got down from his chariot. After seizing the weapon as it approached, Asvattāma hurled it back at Ghatotkaca

Bhima’s son quickly jumped to safety, but the fiery weapon reduced his chariot, horses & driver to a pile of ashes. Ghatotkaca then got onto Dhrishtadyumna’s chariot & together they continued to fight Asvattāma. Bhima also joined the fight, but the irrepressible brahmana’s son could not be checked & he finished killing the entire army of Rāksasās right in his presence

With ten arrows Asvattāma killed the ten sons of Kuntibhoja. Taking a mighty arrow, Asvattāma next pierced Ghatotkaca so severely in the chest that he fell to the floor of his chariot. As Dhrishtadyumna had Ghatotkaca placed on another chariot, the entire Pāndava army fled and so Asvattāma let out a tremendous victory roar

Meanwhile, after recovering, Somdatta once again caught sight of Sātyaki & rushed to attack him. Bhima came to intercept Somdatta and as he released a great Parigha weapon, Sātyaki also discharged a powerful arrow at his adversary’s chest. Both weapons stuck Somdatta simultaneously, making him fall down to the floor of his chariot

When extreme emotions arise in us, we should be careful about our actions. Emotions are indicators of information delivered by our mind and is raw signal. It needs to be processed by our intelligence, analysed and then carefully acted upon. Emotions are not instructions to act instinctively which can impel us towards destructive actions

We all have experience that a premature impulsive action can ruin instantly an otherwise beautiful relationship, nurtured over a period of time. We need to act on the information delivered by emotions to understand what is wrong with something that is important for us. Accordingly using our intelligence we can time our response and thrive
