Duryodhana undeterred from his decision to give up his life, next spread Kusa grass on ground & after purifying himself by touching water, sat down firmly. Dressed in rags, he gave up speech & renounced all other connections with material world. Devoting himself completely to prayer, he was determined to give up his body & thus attain heavenly destination

Daityās & Dānavās had been residing in regions below earth ever since demigods defeated them. Understanding Duryodhana’s determination, demons felt that their mission was being hampered & so they began to perform a ritual that would summon Kaurav king. When Brāhmanās poured libations into sacred fire, a ghastly looking goddess emerged from flames before demons awaiting their command

Demons ordered: Go to earth & bring Duryodhana here. In an instant, Duryodhana was brought in his subtle body to assembly of demons. He was given respectful welcome & then addressed: O King! If you commit suicide it’ll go against your self-interest & lead to life in hell

In order to encourage Duryodhana, demons divulged mystery of his origin: Long ago we worshipped Lord Shiva & as result received you as benediction. The upper part of your body is made of thunderbolts & is invulnerable to weapons. Lord Siva’s wife assembled lower part of your body from flowers & is therefore capable of captivating any female heart. This is secret of your celestial origin

You should know that many dānavās have already appeared on earth to help defeat your enemies. In addition, there are other demons assigned to possess Bhisma, Drona, Kripā, Karna & others, so they’ll give up all affection towards Pāndavās & thus become very hard hearted engaged in battle with them

You can rest be assured that when Bhisma, Drona & Karna come under our influence, they’ll be able to slay Pāndavās with increased prowess. You should give up your fear for Arjun, for the soul of Narkāsura will soon possess Karna, making his prowess irresistible

Indra knows of this & soon will disguise himself as Brāhmanā to beg Karna’s natural armor & earrings. But to compensate this, we’ve already sent 1000’s of Rākshasās to possess warriors known as Samsaptakas (those who are sworn to either conquer or die, these are one aksauhini of soldiers that were later given by Lord Krsna to Duryodhana). Because of this they’ll be able to kill Arjun

My dear Duryodhana, you’re our sole refuge & so pls give up your despondency. Return to Hastināpura & rule the Earth

We all are driven by our past Karma (Prarabdha), which forces us to perform actions concomitant to it. We are thus driven by an invisible force which gives us little leeway. But more powerful than our past Karma is our Dharma. It leads us to be responsible to do what is wrong and not be negligent. We can easily make an excuse and accept the unchangeable, but we should focus on the changeable, which we can influence

Its upto us to make our destiny & not upto destiny to make us
