Reciting Ramayana is so auspicious!

Divine sage Valmiki composed events that happened in the lifetime of Sri Rama & also the events yet to happen in future on this earth (i.e. Uttarkanda). He composed the Ramayana in 24 000 verses in six kandas (cantos)

After composing the verses, Valmiki pondered over about who can translate this epic into a poetic rendition & perform to the whole world. As he was thinking, Kusa & Lava came to him in the garb of ascetics & bowed at his feet. The sage saw the two illustrious princely brothers, well-versed in dharma & gifted with a sweet voice. He found them endowed with intellect & accomplished in the Vedas. Valmiki initiated them into Ramayana, for the purpose of nourishing the Vedas

The twin brothers Kusa & Lava, with a melodious voice, possessed auspicious form & beauty. They were Gandharvas in human form. They looked like the two reflected images of Sri Rama. The contents of the epic Ramayana, apart from being memorable, are sweet & suitable for verbal recitation as well as singing. This charming and attractive kavya is fit to be adapted to the three measures of time & to stringed instruments. It possesses seven notes together with various moods-amorous, compassionate, humorous, heroic, fearful & violent

The two princes, who were blameless, disciplined & well versed committed to their memory the whole epic & chanted it as instructed by Valmiki, in the assembly of rishis, brahmins & saints. On one particular occasion the princes chanted this great epic in the presence of honoured ascetics who assembled at one place. All the sages heard the chanting (of the glorious kavya) and experienced great astonishment. Overcome with tears of joy in their eyes, they praised them exclaiming-Excellent! Excellent! being overjoyed & pleased, hearing about Rama

The audience exclaimed-How melodious is this chanting, especially the verses. Though the events had happened long ago, it is described as if it is happening at the present moment. The chanting is in perfect unison in theme & passion & the charming voice of the princes is endowed with rich notes of music. Praised in this manner by the great sages, the princes continued chanting with greater charm & sweetness.

Pleased with the singing, one of the sages seated in the assembly presented them a pitcher, another sage gave them garments. This wonderful epic chronologically composed & completed by sage Valmiki, is the supreme source for poetry. The two singers, proficient in all kinds of notes recited the epic in the streets & on the principal roads. It was pleasing to hear for all & gave long life and prosperity to the listeners. Everyone admired them

Once Rama happened to see them & invited the two brothers Kusa & Lava, to honour them. He brought them to his royal palace & extended respectful hospitality

Reciting the Ramayana offers spiritual, ethical, and personal benefits, including purification from sins, attainment of desires (wealth, progeny, fame), long life, and inner peace by teaching virtues like truth, duty (dharma), love, fostering positive energy, and guiding one through life's challenges with its timeless tales of good triumphing over evil. Specific cantos are believed to bring particular blessings, like Bala Kanda for progeny & Sundar Kanda for overcoming obstacles through devotion to Hanuman
