Intelligence in Goodness, Passion & Ignorance!
Bhima & Duryodhana rushed at one another & a dreadful fight ensued. After some time both warriors became exhausted from the fight & so they stopped awhile to rest. Then, as all demigods stationed in the sky looked on in wonder, they resumed the contest
While combating with one another, both perfectly displayed
all he arts of club fighting. Sometimes they wheeled about or jumped high to
avoid each other’s blows. Both were covered with blood. Soon, it appeared as if
Duryodhana was gaining the upper hand. Then, suddenly, Duryodhana struck Bhima
severely on the head. Without wavering, Bhima stuck back forcibly, but the
Kaurava king artfully dodged the blow & retaliated by smashing him in the
chest with great force, making him become momentarily dazed. Seeing all this,
all Pāndava warriors became exceedingly depressed
Bhima soon recovered & in a fit of rage he rushed
at Duryodhana. Taking careful aim, Bhima smashed him in the side so that he
lost consciousness while falling to his knees. At this, there was a great uproar
amongst the spectators & when he heard it, Duryodhana regained his senses.
While breathing heavily due to great anger, he stood up while seeming to burn
Bhima with his angry glances
Duryodhana rushed at Bhima & struck him severely
on the forehead & yet Bhima didn’t flinch an inch, in spite of the fact
that blood flowed profusely from his wound. In retaliation Bhima struck
Duryodhana with great force, making him fall to the ground while trembling
violently. After quickly recovering Duryodhana stood up & struck back
Bhima fell to the ground with his armour, broken &
so Duryodhana roared victoriously as a great fear entered Pāndava’s hearts.
Indeed, it was only with great difficulty that Bhima was able to recover his
strength & then raise himself off the ground
At that time Arjun enquired: Dear Krsna, of the two,
who is actually superior?
Sri Krsna said: Both have received equal instructions
but whereas Bhima’s strength is superior, Duryodhana has more skill &
practice. In a fair fight, Bhima would never be able to defeat Duryodhana, but
by employing devious means, I can assure you that he will become victorious.
Long ago, Indra defeated Virocana by unfair means & now Bhima must do the
same
At the time of gambling match, Bhima had vowed to
break Duryodhana’s thighs. Therefore, it is My opinion that should be the means
by which he attains victory. Yudhisthira has foolishly put us into an extremely
dangerous situation. After killing millions of enemy soldiers & defeating
the foremost of warriors, your brother has allowed ultimate victory to depend
on the success of just one man
Krsna says:
pravṛttiṁ ca nivṛttiṁ ca kāryākārye bhayābhaye
bandhaṁ mokṣaṁ ca yā vetti buddhiḥ sā pārtha sāttvikī
O son of Pṛthā, that understanding by which one knows
what ought to be done and what ought not to be done, what is to be feared and
what is not to be feared, what is binding and what is liberating, is in the
mode of goodness
Intelligence
in the mode of goodness is able to view actions holistically in terms of their
consequences, whether they are our obligations or not, whether they are to be
feared or not, and whether they are aligned with our nature. This allows us to
make decisions about which actions we should choose. This implies that whenever
we act, we are meant to consider more than just our feelings while making
decisions
Those
who can’t look beyond the compulsions & feelings may end up making bad
choices
We
need to be very careful before we act
