Immorality or morality?
Sri Krsna said to Arjun: Sukra gave instructions-When an enemy that had formerly been routed, returns to the battlefield with renewed vigour & determination, having become reckless of his very life, he should be especially feared. Duryodhana had fled from the battlefield after losing his entire army. Out of hopelessness he wanted to retire to the forest. Now, since he has been challenged after having practiced very diligently with the mace for 13 years, Duryodhana will surely regain his kingdom if he is not killed by unfair means
Having understood from Sri Krsna the course of action
that must be taken, Arjun meaningfully slapped his left thigh within Bhima’s
sight. Picking up this signal, Bhima began to whirl his mace more impetuously
while moving here & there with great dexterity. Still, Duryodhana expertly
countered all of Bhima’s attacks. As the maces repeatedly clashed, thunderous
sounds were created as sparks flew off in all directions. Once again Bhima
& Duryodhana became fatigued & took some more time off to rest
Thereafter, as the two combatants once again rushed to
encounter one another, Bhima cunningly gave Duryodhana a good opportunity to
strike him, making it appear as if he had become off balance. Taking advantage
of this apparent lapse, Duryodhana attacked, but then Bhima quickly hurled his
mace with all his might. By stepping aside, Duryodhana artfully dodged the blow
so that the mace fell to the ground
Duryodhana then struck Bhima very severely so that
blood profusely from his wound. Although he was somewhat dazed, the son of Vayu
did not want to show it & so with great patience he remained firm.
Duryodhana this thought that Bhima would quickly retaliate & so he backed
off, giving Bhima enough time to regain his composure
After picking up his mace, Bhima madly rushed at
Duryodhana. The Kaurava king decided to avoid the impending blow by jumping
high, but Bhima anticipated this. While letting out a terrible roar, he darted
at Duryodhana & struck his mace very forcefully upon his thighs. Being thus
struck, both thighs were fractured so that Duryodhana fell to the ground,
writhing in agonizing pain. At that fateful moment fierce winds began to blow
& the earth trembled. As meteors streaked across the sky, clouds poured
showers of blood, creating a ghastly scene
As Pandavas shouted with joy, Bhima approached Duryodhana
& prodded: O Sinful wretch, you should now remember how you laughed when
Draupadi was dragged into the assembly of Kurus. At that time, you had
repeatedly taunted her by addressing her as cow
After saying this Bhima violently kicked Duryodhana in
the head with his left foot & said: By good fortune all those that had
formerly rejoiced while watching us suffer will now have to tolerate the
happiness we feel while witnessing their wretched plight. He then danced with
joy
It seems that Bhima won unfairly, but the fight was
unfairly set up against Bhima at the first place. Duryodhana was given an invisible
armour from his mother Gandhari & no matter what hits him above his waist,
he will not be injured. So, the fight was rigged right from the start. It was
for this reason, Sri Krsna advised to employ unfair means in an unfair fight
right from the start
Also, when Maitreya Rsi had visited Kurus to persuade
them not to fight Pandavas, Duryodhana had insolently slapped his thighs to
show his prowess. The Rsi then cursed him that the same thighs would be the
cause of his death. Bhima also vowed to destroy Duryodhana’s thighs as he had invited
Draupadi wickedly to sit on his lap as she was brought in Kuru court. Duryodhana’s
monstrous immorality brought him to such a condition that showing morality
would itself backfire
We all need to be very careful about dealing with
immorality. Higher focus & adherence to establishing Dharma always remains
a priority and even devious means become pious
