Decision making!
When Sri Balarama saw Bhima unfairly strike Duryodhana's thighs, He became extremely angry. Loudly addressing the assembly, He said: O Kings, Bhima is a rascal for purposely striking his opponent below the navel and so he deserves to be punished! After saying this, Sri Balarama picked up His Plow weapon & rushed impetuously toward Bhima with the intention of killing him
Sri Krsna quickly went and caught Balarama in His arms
& then began pacifying Him by saying: Dear brother, You should consider how
it was Bhima's vow to break Duryodhana's highs. Besides, this act was already
predestined by Maitreya Rsi's curse. You should forgive Bhima, for he is the
son of our father's sister. Sri Balarama replied: No matter what You say, Bhima
has acted abominably & so he should be punished!
Sri Krsna implored: Brother, please give up Your
anger. Even if You consider Bhima's act to be immoral, You should at the same
time think of it as repayment for all the times Duryodhana tried to harm the
Pandavas
Sri Balarama was not to be easily pacified, however. Considering
Sri Krsna to be simply offering excuses, He once again loudly declared: O
members of this assembly, from this time on, Bhima will be infamously known as
a crooked fighter. On the other hand, Duryodhana will gain eternal renown as a
highly virtuous and heroic warrior. Having said this, He angrily
stormed out of the assembly & after mounting His chariot left for Dwarka
Because of this, all the Pāndava warriors became very
anxious & depressed, especially Maharäja Yudhisthira, who stood morosely
with his head hung down in shame
Sri Krsna approached Yudhisthira & said: O King,
how could you stand by indifferently as Bhima repeatedly kicked Duryodhana in
the head?
Yudhisthira replied: I certainly did not approve of
what Bhima did. Still, when I considered all the horrible things Duryodhana had
done to us in the past, I could understand the great anguish that must have
been present in Bhima's heart. It is for this reason I did not attempt to check
him.
Sri Krsna said: Yudhisthira, you have spoken correctly
Decisions must be taken as per time place &
circumstances. We need to adhere to our commitment to higher principles but the
implementation for the same needs’ practical wisdom
Whenever we are put in a sudden unexpected &
unfavorable, even unbearable situation, we may resent & even condemn either
God or ourselves for having such a terrible fate. Thankfully however, destiny
does not control everything. Although our situations are beyond our control,
our decisions are not. What do we do in those situations is entirely up to us.
Even if there is a small thing we can do; if we start doing that small positive
thing, that will create positivity within & take us toward positivity
without.
