Wickedness!
After Salya’s death, Maharaj Yudhisthira continued to massacre Kaurava soldiers. Salya’s younger brother then rushed at the Pāndava king hoping for revenge, but his head was cut-off. Entire Kaurava army panicked & retreated from the battlefield, Sakuni took his army & came to fight. Picking his mace Bhima came to crush 21000 Kaurav foot soldiers
Salva, the king of mlecchas, rushed at the Pāndava
army while riding upon his gigantic elephant & proceeded to afflict Pāndava
soldiers so severely that they soon began retreating from the battle.
Dhristadyumna rushed to check Salva & by repeatedly piercing his elephant,
he forced the mleccha king to turn away
Bhima, Satyaki & Shikhandi surrounded Salva’s
elephant & pierced it with innumerable arrows. Finally, as the elephant
began to weaken, Dhristadyumna quickly came & smashed it over the head with
his mace. With its skull split open, the colossal elephant fell dead. Satyaki
then shot a well-aimed arrow that cut off Salva’s head
Sahadev picked his bow & pierced Sakuni with his
arrows. As Bhima came to help Sahadev, he managed to break Sakuni’s bow
Sakuni’s son Uluka joined his father. He thought that
the time had come for him to display his true, heroism & so he rushed
impetuously at Sahadev. Uluka’s bravado was short-lived, however, because
Sahadev cut off his head with a broad-headed arrow. After witnessing death of
his dear son, Sakuni tearfully remembered Vidura’s words. While breathing
heavily, he rushed at Sahadev to take revenge. Sahadev broke Sakuni’s bow as he
approached him & so the son of Subala next took a sword & hurled it
Sahadev easily broke that sword to pieces & Sakuni
proceeded to hurl innumerable weapons one after other. The son of Madri cut
them all to pieces & so at last Sakuni fearfully fled while the soldiers
protecting him followed. At that time Sahadev remembered how Sakuni had been allotted
to him as his quota & so with great determination he chased him
While striking in the back with his arrows, Sahadev
challenged: You wretch! Turn around & fight so that you can receive the long-awaited
results of your deceitful dice playing
After hearing this, Sakuni turned around & so
Sahadev rushed at him. Then he succeeded in cutting down Gāndhar king’s flag
& royal umbrella, Sahadev roared like a maddened lion. As Mādri’s son
continued to pierce him deeply, Sakuni decided to make a final do-or-die effort
by rushing at him with an upraised lance
With three arrows, Sahadev cut that lance in half
& severed Sakuni’s arms. Then, with another well-aimed arrow, he cut-off
wicked Sakuni’s head. Upon seeing this, Sri Krsna & other Pāndavās greatly
rejoiced
We all act wrongly sometimes, but not all wrong
actions are serious. Some could indicate weakness & some pure wickedness. We
can by our intelligence rationally analyse our actions and if our they are
driven by base impulses like lust, greed, anger etc, we feel remorseful for our
actions
But if our actions are repeated & if our inner
conscience is dead, then we hardly feel bad about it. Our intelligence is taken
over by impulses & we plot wrong actions deliberately to hurt others. In fact,
we may rationalize our cold-blooded actions. That is wickedness beyond reform,
which should be curbed & penalised, like in the case of Sakuni
If we are engaged in devotional service, we can get
rid of such wickedness and get reformed
Do we? Thoughts?
