Self-destruction!

Pāndava warriors triumphantly blew their conch & praised Sahadev highly for exterminating wicked Sakuni. As Sakuni’s followers rushed at Sahadev to gain revenge, Bhima & Arjun intercepted them & so the Gāndhara horse soldiers were quickly killed

Duryodhana became enraged after witnessing Sakuni’s death & so he gathered the remnants of Kaurav army & led them to attack Pāndava army. However, when the remains of Kaurav army attacked, instead of gaining revenge, they met with destruction. Duryodhana was already somewhat dazed due to his numerous wounds. When he saw the complete annihilation of his army & heard the victory shouts of Pāndava warriors, he at last decided to give up fighting & flee from the battlefield

Because his horse had been killed, Duryodhana proceeded on foot towards the east, taking with him only his mace. As he walked, Duryodhana’s heart burnt with grief while thinking over the advice of Vidura had formerly given him

Meanwhile, when Dhristadyumna saw that only the captive Sanjaya remained on the Kaurav side, he asked: O Sātyaki, what is the benefit in keeping this one alive?

At this Sātyaki raised his sword to cut off Sanjaya’s head. Just at that moment, Vyāsdev appeared & ordered that Sanjaya be released. Sātyaki received the great sage’s command with folded hands. After putting on his armour & his weapons, Sanjaya took permission & departed

That evening, after proceeding some distance towards Hastināpur, Sanjay came upon Duryodhana, standing by the side of road with his mace in hand, his body badly wounded & his mind overwhelmed by sorrow. Sanjay also became exceedingly sad to see the Kaurav king’s condition. After hearing about Sanjay’s capture & subsequent release, Duryodhana asked him about the state of Kaurav army

Sanjay replied: After ordering my release, Vyāsdev informed me that only 3 of your chariot warriors remain alive, whereas all others have been killed

Duryodhana affectionately touched Sanjay with his hand & requested: Pls inform my father that I have entered a lake called Dvaipāyana, located within this forest. Being completely bereft of friends, I no longer have a desire to continue maintaining my life

After saying this Duryodhana utilizing his mystic power, entered a deep lake within the forest & created a resting place

A King with 11 Akshauhini (2,405,700 warriors) strong army is now alone depressed & dejected ready to give up his life

When the mind does not listen to good advice and goes on an autopilot, when we do things without any though & consequences, it for sure leads to destruction and not the destination. Our mind on autopilot malfunctions when we face habitual temptations that we try to resist. The worldly temptations present in our mind misdirect us from self-actualization and thus we go towards self-destruction of higher intelligence and aggravate our fall

To control our mind, we need to be spiritually inclined. We thus become more conscious & conscientious of what we are doing and why, and can recognize and correct course deviations faster

Krsna says:

bhogaiśvarya-prasaktānāṁ tayāpahṛta-cetasām
vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate

In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place
