Faith in Krsna’s words!

To counter Salya, Yudhisthira ordered Nakula & Sahadev to guard his chariot wheels, Bhima to stay in front, Arjun at back, and Dhrstadyumna & Satyaki to remain at his sides. Thus, ensuring his advantage over Salya, Yudhisthira proceeded towards him while all Pāndava heroes joyfully blew their conch shells


Thereafter as Yudhisthira confronted Salya with unprecedented rage, he impetuously rushed at him while ruthlessly slaughtering thousands of Kaurava soldiers standing on way. As the two great kings furiously battled one another, no one could tell whether Yudhisthira would regain the kingdom of earth after killing Salya, or whether Salya would bestow the kingdom upon Duryodhana after killing Yudhisthira

 

Salya broke Yudhisthira’s bow, but after picking up another one, the Pāndava king broke his opponent’s bow in retaliation. As Salya struggled to pick another bow, Yudhisthira killed his horses & cut down his flag. Seeing this, the Kaurava army began to panic. Asvattāma hurriedly came & rescued Salya by taking him away on his chariot. At this Yudhisthira roared with great indignation & so Salya got onto another chariot & continued fighting

 

Duryodhana sent his foremost warriors to aid Salya, so that a dreadful battle took place. Bhima also blazed angrily & broke Salya’s bow and killing his horses and driver. As Bhima continued onslaught of arrows, Salya became dazed & so in that vulnerable condition, the son of Vayu was able to cut the armour of his body

 

Salya soon recovered, picked his sword & shield but Bhima smashed his shield to pieces and broke his sword at the handle. Having accomplished this difficult task, Bhima roared with great delight. All the Kaurava warriors became highly alarmed seeing their commander’s plight. Due to extreme dejection, they broke in cold sweat

 

Inspite of being bereft of weapons, Salya continued to rush madly towards Yudhisthira. At that time Yudhisthira remembered Sri Krsna’s words, requesting him to kill Salya without any consideration of family ties. Being so determined, he decided to employ an effulgent spear that had been created by Visvakarma for Lord Shiva. The incomparable spear had been carefully worshipped by the Pandavas for many years

 

Empowering the spear with the chanting of mantras, Yudhisthira carefully took aim & then violently hurled it at his onrushing foe. That terrible spear generated sparks as it whizzed thro’ the air. Even though Salya tried to catch it as it came towards him, it avoided his clutches & pierced right through his chest. Salya fell dead onto the ground as blood flowed profusely from his nose & mouth.

If we have faith in the words of the Supreme Lord and abide by his instructions, victory will always be there. If we lovingly surrender ourselves, striving to serve Krsna with a devotional inner connection, it equips us for wise outer actions We will be saved from choosing wrong choices and would come out trumps in both morality and victory

 

Krsna says:

sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

 

Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made.   Krsna’s plan!   As Asvattāma asked Krpa about what happened to his father Drona, with great anguish Krpa said: My dear Asvattāma, your father was killed by Dhrishtadyumna. Knowing Drona to be invincible as long as he would wield his weapons, Sri Krsna ordered Yudhisthira to falsely inform him of your death.
