When Maharāj Yudhisthira heard the joyful shouts of the Kauravas, he could understand that Salya has been installed as their new commander-in-chief. He went to Sri Krsna & said: Dear Lord, we are Your surrendered souls & ever obedient servants. Please do whatever is required for my welfare & that of my brothers
Sri Krsna replied: Dear Yudhisthira, Salya is a very
great warrior, perhaps even superior to Bhisma, Drona & Karna. In fact, I
consider him to be superior even to Arjun, Bhima & Sātyaki. I do not see
any of your allies who can kill him. Only you are a fit match for Salya &
so you must fight with him tomorrow. After killing him, you will be able to
enjoy the kingdom of the earth. Don’t think of exhibiting compassion for your
maternal uncle. You have already crossed over three vast oceans, represented by
Bhisma, Drona & Karna. Now you must be careful not to sink into the calf’s
hoof print that is represented by Salya. After saying this, Sri Krsna retired
to His tent
All the Pāndava warriors passed the night very
happily, having witnessed the death of Karna. The next morning, the Kauravas
made an agreement that none of their warriors should attempt to face the Pāndavās
single-handedly, but instead should fight combinedly
After the sun had risen fierce fighting raged as the
two armies again encountered one another. Bhima & Arjun immediately began
inflicting very heavy losses upon the Kaurava army so that the battlefield was
soon strewn with countless severed limbs & mangled bodies
Nakula broke the bow of Karna’s son Chitrasena &
then killed his horses & driver. Picking up the sword, Nakula jumped his
chariot & rushed at Citrasena on foot, hoping to kill him without further
ado, but the son of Karna picked up another bow & sent a steady stream of
arrows at his onrushing foe. Still, without faltering, Nakula jumped onto
Citrasena’s chariot and quickly severed his head
Seeing this, two more sons of Karna, Susena &
Satyasena, rushed at Nakula after he had remounted his chariot. The two
brothers quickly smashed Nakula’s chariot to bits & so the son of Madri had
to continue fighting from the ground. Still, Nakula managed to break
Satyasena’s bow & then killed his horses. Satyasena got onto another
chariot, but Nakula once again broke his bow & slaughtered his horses
Susena came to rescue his brother & he broke
Nakula’s bow with a well-aimed arrow. Picking up another bow, Nakula angrily
broke Satyasena’s bow & next hurled a blazing spear that shattered
Satyasena’s heart, making him fall dead onto the battlefield
Compassion should not be sentimental but should be dovetailed
to spiritual purpose. We can help others not just with outer resources, which helps
only their body, but also provide them with spiritual insights &
transformational practices that will empower them to become pure. Impurities of
heart are the biggest hindrances in someone’s holistic progress and if we can address
that, we can ensure that our help actually Helps
Krsna says:
labhante brahma-nirvāṇam ṛṣayaḥ kṣīṇa-kalmaṣāḥ
chinna-dvaidhā yatātmānaḥ sarva-bhūta-hite ratāḥ
Those who are beyond the dualities that arise from
doubts, whose minds are engaged within, who are always busy working for the
welfare of all living beings and who are free from all sins achieve liberation
in the Supreme.
