After Bhima killed Dushasana, ten Dhārtarāshtrās mustered up all their courage & rushed impetuously at Bhima, determined to take revenge, but Vāyu’s son quickly cut off their heads with 10 broad-headed arrows. Upon seeing this, a great fear entered Karna’s heart
Seeing
him so afraid of Bhima, Salya encouraged Karna by saying: O Hero, Duryodhana is
in a state of shock because of his brother’s death & our warriors are
trying to console him. Since Arjun now approaches, you must fight courageously.
It is upon you alone that the Kauravas depend
Karna’s heroic son Vrsasena daringly rushed at Bhima,
but Nakula intercepted him. Fighting bravely, he broke Nakula’s shield, his
sword & pierced him in chest. Nakula jumped on Bhima’s chariot, but
Vrsasena attacked them both. Seeing this Arjun became determined to kill him.
Laughing menacingly, Arjun declared: O Karna, watch now as I kill your
favourite son in front of all. This will be just the opposite of your ganging
together to kill Abhimanyu in a secluded place. After killing him, I’ll
dispatch you to the abode of Yamarāj this very day without fail
Arjun
then deeply pierced Vrsasena with 10 arrows, making him waver. Then, with 4
more, Arjun broke his bow & cut off his arms and head. Karna felt scorched
by grief as he witnessed this brutal slaughter of his beloved son & he
madly rushed at Arjun. As Karna advanced, Sri Krsna warned: O Arjun, you must
be very careful!
Arjun
replied: Dear Krsna, because of your presence, I’m confident of victory. Take
me quickly toward onrushing Karna so that I can kill him without further delay.
As Karna & Arjun prepared to fight, warriors on
both sides shouted with joy & loudly blew their conch shells to gladden
their respective heroes. No one could ascertain who would come out victorious, as
both were foremost chariot warriors
Dhārtarāshtrās
came & surrounded Karna, while Pāndavās with Dhrishtadyumna supported
Arjun. In sky all kinds of celestial beings could be heard expressing their
opinions as to who would emerge victorious. Arguing amongst themselves, the
personified stars, demons, Guhyakas, Rāksasās, Adityās, vaisyās, sudrās, sutas,
ghosts, spirits, dogs & sea monsters all took Karna’s side. On the other
hand, the demigods, Pitrs, Brāhmanās, Ksatriyās, Rājarsis & Gandharvas were
for Arjun
Lord
Brahmā & Sivā then appeared in sky, accompanied by great sages. At this
time Indra loudly wished for Arjuna’s victory. When he heard this, Surya
countered by expressing his hope that Karna would prevail. Thus, a heated
argument developed between Indra & Surya about the respective merits of
their dear sons. Indra approached Lord Brahmā & pleaded: O Grandsire, may
your previous statement that the two Krsnas would never be vanquished remain
true!
Lord
Brahmā said: Indra, rest assured that Arjuna’s victory is certain. Because
Karna is fighting on Dānavās side, it is proper for him to meet with defeat.
Sri Krsna & Arjun are none other than Nārayana & Nara Rsis, and thus
they are beyond influence of laws of destiny. Indeed, they are the creators of
all spiritual & material existence, including varieties of living entities
contained therein. As such there is no one who has any power to exert even the
slightest influence over them
Victory
is always dovetailed if we are in the service of the Supreme Lord. Victory is
always with the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna. As for the
subordinate living entities, they fight under the arrangement of the Supreme
Personality of Godhead. Victory or defeat is not actually theirs; it is an
arrangement by the Lord through the agency of material nature

The
bewildered spirit soul, under the influence of the three modes of material
nature, thinks himself the doer of activities that are in actuality carried out
by nature
The
living entities work only under the direction of the Supreme Lord. This fact we
all need to understand & act accordingly!
