As the battle progressed, Kaurava army gradually weakened. Arjuna fought with Samsaptakas & managed to kill 20000 of them in a fierce battle. Karna continued to annihilate Pāncālas by the thousands & so Maharaj Yudhisthira rushed at him, along with Dhrstadyumna, Draupadi’s sons & other leading warriors. And yet, inspite of being surrounded by so many powerful warriors, Karna was able to check them all. Arjun also wanted to join the attack on Karna & so he ordered Sri Krsna to take him where the battle was raging
Asvattāma attacked Arjun sending forth showers of
arrows. In fact, he covered Arjuna’s chariot with so many arrows that the two
Krsnas became completely obscured from view. When Arjun witnessed this
unprecedented display of prowess, he considered himself to be surely vanquished.
Sri Krsna became very angry seeing Arjun lose his confidence &
determination. He chastised Arjun saying: O descendant of Bharata, how can you
allow Asvattāma dominate you? Don’t give way to weakness of heart & thus
spare the son of your teacher
Hearing this, Arjun angrily picked up 14 broad headed
arrows & proceeded to break Asvattāma’s bow, emblem, umbrella, flags &
club. He then deeply pierced his adversary in the shoulder, making him sit on
his chariot supporting himself holding the flagpole. Asvattāma lost
consciousness & was taken away by his driver away from battle. Being
without the protector, Kaurava army was then slaughtered by Arjun
Yudhisthira had been frequently wounded while
repeatedly fighting with Karna. At last, feeling severe pain, he retreated to
some distance to rest & recuperate. Duryodhana went to Karna & pleaded:
O commander of my forces, now is the time for you to either defeat the Pāndavās
once and for all or attain heaven by dying on the battlefield
Karna once again prepared to a launch an all-out
attack on Pāndava army & a dreadful battle then took place. He proceeded
towards Pāndava king & attacked forcefully. Yudhisthira was severely
wounded & so he ordered his driver to beat a hasty retreat. The Dhārtarāshtrās
chased Yudhisthira, hoping to capture him, but Bhima intervened to check them
As Yudhisthira proceeded toward the Pāndava camp
accompanied by Nakula & Sahadev, Karna once again attacked him. He killed
Yudhisthira’s horses & knock his crown off his head. Seeing the plight of Pāndavās,
Salya became compassionate & said: O Karna, why are you unnecessarily
wasting your arrows & tiring your horses? It would be better to immediately
go & fight Arjun
Karna ignored these words & continued to pierce
Yudhisthira very deeply with arrows. He was determined to kill Yudhisthira but
just as he was prepared to rush at him, Salya pointed out that Duryodhana had
fallen into great difficulty while fighting with Bhima. Seeing the Kaurava king
in precarious position, he gave fighting with Yudhisthira & quickly
proceeded to his rescue
Who is your advisor? This plays a huge role in
deciding the course of your life. Association plays a big part in our lives and
more so of a person whom we consider as our motivators. They motivate us &
give us the impetus to overcome our lethargy, apathy and complacency and thus
they push us to become a better version of ourselves. They would never compare
us with others and push us to become like them. This replication would be very
harmful
We should always strive to become better versions of
ourselves & not poor imitations of others
