Plan!

 

Asvattāma launched the Nārayana weapon. While watching his fear-struck soldiers running away in all directions, Maharāj Yudhisthira became somewhat delirious due to shock & fear. In this state he sarcastically shouted: O Sātyaki, O Dhrishtadyumna, because the killing of Drona was so sinful, victory and life itself np longer have meaning for us. We should thus not lament that you are now fleeing along with your army, thus giving Duryodhana his desired triumph!

 

The killing of Drona was most abominable, for who else but him was such a dear friend? Just think of all that he did for us! He aided the kurus in the slaughter of Abhimanyu and he killed so many innocent persons with his Brahmāstra. He refused to answer Draupadi when she appealed for justice in the royal court of the Kurus & when we were deceitfully exiled to the forest, he willingly gave us permission to depart, although numerous well-wishers had implored him not to do so

 

After Yudhisthira finished speaking, Sri Krsna signalled by waving His arms, indicating that the Pāndava warriors should not retreat any further. At the same time, He ordered: Everyone must immediately put down their weapons, for this is the means of neutralizing the Nārayanāstra ordained by Lord Nārayana Himself. I warn you that if anyone ignores My instructions & tries to continue fighting, or even resists the Nārayana weapon within his mind, its energy will increase

 

Although everyone else followed Sri Krsna’s command by putting down their weapons and driving out from their hearts all desire for battle, Bhima responded by boasting: Just watch as I will display my full prowess! After destroying the Nārayanāstra, I will vanquish Asvattāma

 

After hearing this, Bhima rushed towards Asvattāma while releasing showers of arrows. As a result, the Nārayana weapon became more powerful & directed itself against Bhima. As all the Pāndava warriors uttered exclamations of woe, Arjun quickly covered his brother with a Varuna weapon in the hopes of protecting him. Still, the Nāryanāstra fell upon Bhima’s head

 

Because of the intense glare create by the weapon, no one could see what Arjun had done. Inspite of the covering effect of the Varuna weapon, the Nārayanāstra continued to enter Bhima’s body, just as stars rush toward the western horizon at the close of night, or as the fire of devastation finally enters the Lord’s mouth after destroying the entire universe

 

Krsna’s words should be our last refuge. The more we resist his instructions, the more we are bind by his material energy to suffer

 

Sri Krsna says:

mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ
manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati

 

The living entities in this conditioned world are My eternal fragmental parts. Due to conditioned life, they are struggling very hard with the six senses, which include the mind

 

We all, in our conditioned life, are dominated by the material modes of nature, and forget the transcendental loving service of the Lord. As a result, we struggle very hard to maintain our existence in the material world. Let us hold our plans lightly but our Lord tightly
