Fight in divine consciousness!

As Drona & Arjun waged an incomparable battle against each other, demigods, celestial sages, Gandharvas, Siddhas, Apsarās, Yaksas and Rāksasās assembled in the overhead sky & exclaimed: This battle is unmatched in the history of warfare, for it is being conducted on the basis of spiritual prowess

At last Drona invoked Brahmāstra, causing the earth to tremble, the seas to swell with great agitation and fierce winds to blow. In response Arjun fearlessly invoked his own Brahmāstra. When the two weapons neutralized each other, all became calm. Seeing that neither Arjun nor Drona could gain upper hand, the Pāndava & Kaurava warriors resumed fighting

Dhrishtadyumna rushed at Drona & so Duryodhana tried to intercept him. Sātyaki then came between Dhrishtadyumna and Duryodhana. At that time the Kaurava king addressed the Yadu hero, saying: My dear childhood friend, do you remember how we had played together? In fact, we were practically inseparable. Where are those childhood pastimes now, as we are ready to pierce one another in battle? How abominable Kshatriya life is, and how despicable is my insatiable greed for wealth & power that has caused this horrible massacre!

In reply, Sātyaki encouraged Duryodhana to fight by saying: My dear king, even if you die while fighting with me, it will be your great fortune. Not only will you ascend to heaven, but you will not have to witness the remainder of this detestable conflict

After saying this, Sātyaki rushed at Duryodhana. As they proceeded to fight aggressively, they afflicted one another greatly with their arrows. Duryodhana managed to break Sātyaki’s bow. When the Yadu hero picked up another one, he wounded the Kaurava king so severely that he ad to get onto another chariot and rest awhile

Duryodhana soon returned to the fight and so Karna rushed to his aid, considering him to be no match for Sātyaki. Bhima could not tolerate Karna’s interference & so he intercepted him. Karna easily broke Bhima’s bow & killed his driver, and so Vayu’s son angrily picked up his mace. Getting down from his chariot, Bhima rushed at Karna and then smashed his bow and insignia and also broke one of his chariot wheels. Despite this, Karna continued to manoeuvre his chariot on one wheel, so that it appeared as if he was riding upon Suryā’s single-wheeled chariot

Meanwhile, Drona continued to slaughter the Pāndava army so brutally that its warriors finally lost all hope, considering the Preceptor to be invincible

The time has come for Sri Krsna to intervene!

Sri Krsna says:

hato vā prāpsyasi svargaṁ jitvā vā bhokṣyase mahīm
tasmād uttiṣṭha kaunteya yuddhāya kṛta-niścayaḥ

sukha-duḥkhe same kṛtvā lābhālābhau jayājayau
tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi

O son of Kuntī, either you will be killed on the battlefield and attain the heavenly planets, or you will conquer and enjoy the earthly kingdom. Therefore, get up with determination and fight. Fight for the sake of fighting, without considering happiness or distress, loss or gain, victory or defeat – and by so doing you shall never incur sin

We all must execute our responsibilities come what may. Sri Kṛṣṇa directly says that Arjuna should fight for the sake of fighting because He desires the battle. There is no consideration of happiness or distress, profit or loss, victory or defeat in the activities of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That everything should be performed for the sake of Kṛṣṇa is transcendental consciousness; so there is no reaction to material activities

He who acts for his own sense gratification, either in goodness or in passion, is subject to the reaction, good or bad. But he who has completely surrendered himself in the activities of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is no longer obliged to anyone, nor is he a debtor to anyone, as one is in the ordinary course of activities
