Where we seek…..?
From above Ghatotkaca began showering his arrows upon
Karna, but when these were all counteracted, he once again made himself
invisible. He again suddenly appeared assuming the form of a gigantic mountain
that poured forth streams of weapons. Karna was not the least agitated,
however, and with a celestial weapon he quickly destroyed that terrible
mountain
Ghatotkaca next became a dark cloud showering volley
of stones. With a Vayavya weapon Karna dispersed that illusion. Then having
become highly enraged, Ghatotkaca suddenly rushed at Karna & broke his bow.
Picking up another bow, Karna proceeded to slaughter the Rāksasa army that
supported Bhima’s son so that the survivors quickly fled, deserting their
leader
Ghatotkaca then utilized his mystic power to create a
chariot drawn by asses. After mounting it, he once again rushed at Karna &
hurled a terrible Asani weapon of Lord Shiva. Putting aside his bow, Karna
jumped from his chariot. After seizing the Asani weapon as it soared towards
him, he threw it back to Ghatotkaca
Bhima son had anticipated this & so he jumped to
safety as the Asani weapon reduced his chariot to a pile of ashes & then
entered the earth. Karna remounted his chariot & continued showering arrows
so that Ghatotkaca once again made himself invisible. Then after a brief lull,
he reappeared, having divided himself into many forms. By this exhibition of
mystic power, he threw the entire Kaurava army into a state of confusion
Thereafter Ghatotkaca created many illusory lions, tigers
and many other ferocious animals, as well as ghosts and spirits, all of whom
rushed at Karna with gaping mouths to devour him. Karna destroyed all these
beasts, and spirits with his arrows. At this, Ghatotkaca came close by, threatening
his adversary viciously & then suddenly disappeared
Meanwhile, a Rāksasā named Alayudha came to Duryodhana
to engage in his service & he was accompanied by a large army. His
relatives, Vaka & Kirmira, as well as his friend, Hidimba, had been killed
by Bhima. Alayudha presented himself before the Kaurava king, hoping to be
given a chance to gain revenge. Duryodhana happily accepted the Rāksasā and
ordered him to proceed at once against Ghatotkaca, so that Karna could be
rescued
Bhima’s son was creating such fierce illusions that
all the Kaurava warriors became very afraid for Karna’s life. At the same time,
all the Pandav warriors took great delight in seeing how Karna was being put in
such a precarious position
Thereafter, when Alayudha approached him, Ghatotkaca
left aside fighting with Karna
Delight & dismay comes as part & parcel of
life. We sometimes are delighted by the dismay of others. If seeking such
pleasure becomes a habit & our life’s purpose, then it may happen that we
become so depressed if others prosper. This should not be source of our
happiness
Bhagvad Gita reveals the higher purpose of life based
on spiritual worldview. At our core we are indestructible souls & part of
transcendental whole Sri Krsna. Our pleasure is derived by our connection to
the Supreme Lord and not by the material sense gratification. All our
talents and achievements are meant ultimately to help us connect devotionally
with Krsna & contribute practically in this world for our and others’
well-being
Where
& in what do we seek pleasure?
