Protection!

 

Drona assumed that Bhima would offer him respect, just as Arjun had done. Still, as a matter of course, he challenged: O Bhima! Your brother Arjun had penetrated the Kaurava army with my permission, but even though you consider yourself a great hero, you will never be able to do so

 

Enraged Bhima responded: You wretch of Brahmana, although I formerly respected you like a father, I will now treat you as my enemy for speaking so abusively. He then violently hurled his mace, forcing Drona to jump & save himself from being smashed along with his chariot. As Bhima proceeded to inflict heavy causalities upon Kaurava army, Drona mounted another chariot

 

The Dhārtarāshtrās came & surrounded Bhima. While rushing at Bhima, Dushasana hurled a fierce spear. Bhima easily baffled it & then retaliated by killing seven of Dhritrāshtra’s sons. The remaining Dhārtarāshtrās continued to release showers of arrows, but when Bhima killed four more of the brothers, the rest panicked & fled. At this the entire Kaurava army began to retreat & while giving chase, Bhima continued to slaughter numerous enemy soldiers

 

Drona returned to encounter Bhima & as these two rival heroes fought, the Preceptor killed 100’s of Pāndava soldiers. Unable to tolerate this, Bhima suddenly jumped from his chariot. Closing his eyes so that he could bear Drona’s onslaught of arrows, Bhima rushed at the Preceptor. Drona feverishly tried to repulse Bhima, but he came right up & grabbed his chariot. Then as Drona fearfully jumped to safety, Bhima threw his chariot to ground with great force, smashing it to pieces

 

Drona sped away in another chariot & so Bhima remounted his own and continued towards Arjun, passing easily thro’ the armies of Kauravas, Kambojas & mlecchas. Finally, Bhima caught sight of Sātyaki, making his desire to see Arjun increase unlimitedly. Then, when Bhima suddenly saw Arjun engaged in battle, he let out a loud roar. Hearing this, Sri Krsna & Arjun shouted in return, hoping to catch sight of Vāyu’s son

 

Maharāj Yudhisthira could hear Bhima’s & Arjun’s shouts, and thus his grief was immediately dispelled. Indeed, within himself he expressed his great gratitude by offering heartfelt prayers to his eternal master & protector, Sri Krsna

 

On the other hand, Karna could not tolerate Bhima’s enthusiastic roar & he furiously rushed to attack him. In the firce duel that followed, Bhima & Karna pierced each other with numerous arrows. Twice Bhima broke Karna’s bow. The he killed his driver & horses. Due to this Karna jumped to ground & got into Vrsasena’s chariot while Bhima roared victoriously

 

Rākhe Krsna māre ke, mare Krsna rākhe ke!

If Krsna desires to kill somebody, nobody can give him protection – no power. And if He wants to save somebody, nobody can kill him. This is Krsna’s protection

 

Krsna says to Arjun:

kṣipraṁ bhavati dharmātmā śaśvac-chāntiṁ nigacchati
kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati

 

He quickly becomes righteous and attains lasting peace. O son of Kuntī, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes

Emotions! As R āksasās led by Ghatotkaca attacked, only Asvattāma remained firm & dispelled their illusions. Ghatotkaca rushed at Asvattāma, but the son of Drona drove him back with a forceful stream of arrows. The son of Ghatotkaca, named Anjanaparva joined the fray, showering his arrows upon Asvattāma, but Drona’s son quickly retaliated by knocking down his flag, killing his two drivers, breaking his bow & at last killing his horses   Anjanaparva flew into the sky & began showering trees upon Asvattāma. In retaliation the son of Drona afflicted him so severely that the Rāksasā soon had to return to the shelter of his chariot. Asvattāma discharged a fierce arrow that took away Anjanaparva’s life & then continued to slaughter many other Pāndava warriors   Ghatotkaca became terribly aggrieved seeing the death of his son & so he rushed at Asvattāma while challenging him.   Emotional outburst – It hurts!   Hearing Bhima’s roar, all Pāndava warriors triumphantly blew conch shells & shouted with joy. Duryodhana went to Drona on a swift chariot. With great anger he said: O Preceptor! Arjun, Sātyaki & Bhima have approached Jayadratha after vanquishing our soldiers. How could you let them defeat you & then pass right thro’ your army? Do you not know that all our warriors harshly criticize you for this grievous lapse? Anyways, let us forget what has passed.
