Pretense
Vs Reality!
When
Bhima saw Karna hiding behind a chariot, he waited for him to come out. Karna suddenly
rushed out with a vengeance, bow in hand. As he was without weapon, Bhima hastily
retreated, taking shelter amongst heaps of elephants that had been slaughtered
by Arjun, since Karna’s chariot could not go there. Bhima picked one of dead
elephants & held it over his head so that he looked like Hanumān holding a
peak of Gandhamādana mountain. Karna cut that elephant to pieces with arrows
& in retaliation, Bhima hurled at him whatever part of elephant’s body
remained in his hands
Two
warriors fought with each other with great gusto. Bhima remembered how Arjun
had vowed to kill Karna & Karna also remembered his promise to Kunti devi,
and so they desisted to attack one another fatally
Sri
Krsna pointed out to Arjun that Yudhisthira has been left unprotected as Sātyaki
also left him to fight. When he saw unfatigued Bhurisravā attacking Sātyaki (exhausted
after fighting numerous battles), he became anxious & said: O Krsna, I
think Yudhisthira made a great mistake by sending Sātyaki here to help us
Bhurisravā
& Sātyaki challenged one another with very abusive language & fought
fiercely. After breaking each other’s weapons, they resorted to wrestling with
bare arms. Watching this, Sri Krsna said: Dear Arjuna! By no means you should
allow Sātyaki to battle Bhurisravā unaided. Your disciple has penetrated the
entire Kaurava army for your sake. Now although exhausted, he is contending
with mighty Bhurisravā who has fought little today
Bhurisravā
threw Sātyaki on ground & grabbing him by hair, he began to drag him. While
holding Sātyaki by hair, Bhurisravā drew his sword & violently kicked him
in the chest. As Sātyaki attempted to free himself by frantically whirling his
head along with the arm holding it, Bhurisravā raised his sword
Sri
Krsna urgently exclaimed: Arjun! You must come to your disciple’s rescue
Arjun
said: Dear Krsna! I was watching Jayadratha & was thus not aware of Sātyaki’s
precarious condition. Now watch as I accomplish a wonderful feat. Arjun shot an
arrow that cut off Bhurisravā’s right arm & the sword that it gripped. After
his arm fell to ground, Bhurisravā chastised Arjun: O descendant of Bharata!
How could you be so shameless? How could you dare cut off the arm of someone
whom you were not directly engaged to fight? How you will be able to explain
this ignoble act to Yudhisthira? Is this what you learnt from Drona while
receiving instructions in the science of weapons?
Addressing
Krsna Bhurisravā said: O Yādava, it must have been You who encouraged Arjun to
perform this dastardly act! He then said to Arjun: O son of Pāndu, why did you
allow yourself to be guided by a despicable person like Krsna?
Arjun
said: You unnecessarily criticize us. My action is fully justifiable, because
while fighting, one necessarily depends upon the strength of his allies.
Indeed, if I stood by passively, allowing Sātyaki to be killed in my presence,
it would have been most sinful & abominable on my part. Your present plight
is your own doing, for you carelessly left yourself open to the attack of others
The
absence of ability to work for a cause is understandable & excusable, but
the absence of will, even if we have the ability is abominable. When something
important is to be done & if due to lack of ability/skills, we are not able
to contribute, it is understandable but if we lack the will despite having
resources, then that is not justifiable. When someone does this, he pretends to
support the cause in position of power but actually he is dishonest &
detrimental for the cause
Such
people who pretend exist both in personal & professional sphere & we should be very
careful of them
