Controller
Vs being Controlled!
Duryodhana
ordered seven more of his brothers to come to Karna’s rescue, but as they
rushed at him, Bhima killed each one with a single arrow. Witnessing this,
Vidura’s advice came to Karna’s mind, but still he mounted another chariot to
continue fighting with Bhima, who cut-off Karna’s armor so that both warriors
faced each other unclad & covered with blood
All
others stopped fighting to watch this fascinating duel-even Sri Krsna, Arjun,
Krpā, Asvattāma, & Bhurisravā. As Bhima continued to successfully counter Karna’s
arrows, they applauded him very enthusiastically. Duryodhana ordered seven more
brothers to come to Karna’s aid, including Vikarna & Chitrasena, and they
soon surrounded Bhima
Bhima
quickly released seven arrows that pierced their hearts & continued flying through
air after taking away their lives. Actually, Bhima was very aggrieved that he
had to kill Vikarna, for this pious son of Dhritrāshtra was very dear to him.
Nevertheless, Bhima had vowed to kill all one hundred Dhārtarāshtrās & so
he had not hesitated to do so. After accomplishing this wonderful feat, he let
out a loud roar
Maharāj
Yudhisthira heard this tumultuous sound & it gave him great joy, for he
could understand that his brother had been victorious. But Duryodhana became
very depressed that Bhima had killed thirty-one of his brothers. With great
remorse, he also began to remember Vidura’s words
Bhima
resumed fighting with Karna. Because numerous Kaurava warriors had already been
slaughtered in that terrible battle, the rest retreated beyond reach of his
arrows. Bhima knocked off Karna’s effulgent earring with an arrow & pierced
him deeply in forehead & chest. Karna closed his eyes as he began to lose
consciousness & he held the railing of his chariot tightly. He quickly
recovered, however, and then rushed at Bhima with vengeance
Bhima
broke Karna’s bow as he charged at him. After picking up another bow, Karna
showered his arrows so that they looked like dense swarms of locusts flying
thro’ the sky. Still, Bhima not only neutralized all these arrows, but also
attacked Karna with his own. From the sky the demigods showered flowers upon two
heroes, for they were very pleased to witness the spectacular duel
Karna
knocked down Bhima’s two quivers & broke his bowstring. With Bhima in
helpless condition, Karna killed his horses & wounded his driver so
severely that he deserted his master out of fear by getting onto Yudhāmanyu’s
chariot. Karna then broke Bhima’s emblem & flag. The son of Vāyu retaliated
by throwing a spear, but Karna broke it into pieces as it sailed thro’ the air.
Bhima picked up his sword & shield and jumped from his disabled chariot,
desiring to immediately gain victory or die
Bhima
was highly excited with anger & so when Karna shattered his shield, he
violently hurled his sword, breaking sutā’s bow. Karna picked up a stronger bow
& released thousands of arrows, but then suddenly, Bhima leaped high into
the air roaring ferociously. This frightened Karna so much that he quickly hid
at the back of his chariot
We
are very much controlled by our mind & senses as long as we neglect our
spiritual identity as eternal parts of Krsna. They allure us with promises of
pleasure & drag us everywhere, thereby misleading us from our real goals i.e.
identification of who we really are & what is our relationship with the
Supreme Lord
The
best way to break free of control of mind & senses is to place ourselves
under the Supreme controller, Krsna-the all attractive & all loving Lord. Unfortunately,
we often resent such submission thinking that we will lose our freedom. But in
reality, we have already lost our freedom to our mind & senses. And they
are abusing their control over us by degrading and deluding us with false
promises of pleasure. In contrast Sri Krsna will elevate us when we live life
according to his principles, that of Bhagvad Gita
mamaivāṁśo
jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ
manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati
Let’s
choose our most benevolent controller & be elevated
