Real well-wishers!
As Sātyaki saw Duryodhana, Dushasana & other Dhārtarāshtrās
trying to overtake him from the rear, he instructed his driver to slow down so
that he could encounter the onrushing foe
As Kaurava army attacked, Sātyaki quickly killed 300
horse soldiers, 400 elephants & numerous foot soldiers. Dushasana ordered some
mountain warriors who fought only with stones to attack Sātyaki. He encouraged
them by saying that the Yādava hero wasn’t familiar with this mode of warfare.
When these mountaineers surrounded him with their upraised stones, Sātyaki not
only smashed their rocks to pieces with his arrows, but severed their limbs, so
that at least 500 fell dead, some of them crushed by their own boulders. As the
remaining warriors fled, Sātyaki killed them by the thousands
After seeing Sātyaki route the Kaurava army, Drona
wondered whether he should continue to follow the Yadu hero or go back to where
the Pāndava & Pāncāla warriors were assailing his army. While Drona was
thinking in this way, Sātyaki came into view as he gave chase to the retreating
Kauravas. When he saw Dushasana fleeing in fear after the defeat of his elder
brother, Drona chastised him very harshly in the hope of making him rally the
Kaurava army
Drona said: O hero! Previously you had addressed
Draupadi very cruelly by saying, “Princess of Pāncāla, now that they have lost
at dice, your husbands are as good as dead. Therefore, without hesitation, you
should renounce them, along with your chastity & become Duryodhana’s
maidservant”. Dushasana after uttering such bold words in the presence of Pāndavās,
why are you fleeing from merely Sātyaki? If you want to avoid fighting, you
should surrender to the Pāndavās & return their kingdom after establishing
peaceful relations
Dushasana pretended not to hear Drona’s words. Without
uttering a reply, he rallied his army & proceeded to where Sātyaki was
staying
Drona confronted Pāncālas & as he began to
slaughter many of their leading warriors, Dhrishtadyumna rushed to check him.
With great rage, he pierced Drona so severely that the Preceptor fainted.
Hoping to take full advantage of this golden opportunity Dhrishtadyumna put
aside his bow, took out his sword, jumped from his chariot & hastily leapt
onto Drona’s
The Preceptor had already recovered & released stream
of arrows causing Dhrishtadyumna to turn back & mount his chariot again. During
the intense duel that followed, Drona cut off the head of Dhrishtadyumna’s
driver so that the unguided horses carried him away from the battlefield
Both encouragement & chastisement are instruments
to bring one out of the cold and perform. Encouraging others is not about
enticing others with a better future but is about enabling them to realize &
release the potential that is entrapped within them.
Sometimes when we are in a difficult situation, not
what we want, then someone may promise us that you do this, and your future
will be better. Some people may allure & mislead us with an intention to
exploit us with such promises. But if we are to know who really wants to help
us, we need to look at what they emphasize upon. Are they simply promising
something external to us or they are enabling us to discover what is within us
and realizing that potential perform what we are capable of
Those people are our real well-wishers!
