Illusion!

Yudhisthira roared loudly as he hurled a blazing spear with a golden shaft. Drona invoked Brahmāstra that reduced the spear to ashes. As that powerful weapon continued towards his chariot, Yudhisthira neutralized it with his own Brahmāstra. He then pierced Drona with 5 arrows & broke his bow. When Drona hurled it, Yudhisthira threw his mace so that the two crashed & fell to ground

Drona was very agitated seeing Yudhisthira destroying his weapons & quickly killed his horses. Drona then broke his bow, knocked down his royal insignia & pierced him with arrows. Being, weapon less, Yudhisthira jumped from his chariot & stood upon ground with upraised arms. The Preceptor rushed to make good his vow while showering arrows to drive away Pāndava warriors attempting to protect the king. Still, before Drona could reach him, Yudhisthira was picked up by Sahadeva & carried away

Formerly, Bhima had killed Alamvusa’s brother Vaka. Hoping to gain revenge, the Rāksasa challenged Vāyu’s son assuming a terrible form. Alamvusa rushed at Bhima & pierced him so severely with arrows that he fainted on his chariot floor. Bhima soon recovered & in fit of rage covered Rāksasa’s entire body with arrows

Alamvusa made himself invisible & continued showering arrows on Bhima from sky. Bhima retaliated by discharging arrows into sky so violently that soon Rāksasa was forced to appear, riding his chariot. Alamvusa assumed various forms, one after another, so sometimes he appeared to be entering the earth & then would be seen soaring thro’ sky, showering weapons & slaughtering Pāndava warriors

Unable to tolerate this, Bhima’s eyes burnt with rage as he invoked a tvastr weapon that released 1000’s of arrows. This wonderful weapon not only slaughtered numerous Kaurava warriors, but also dispelled Alamvusa’s illusions & wounded him severely. With his body pierced all over, the Rāksasa quickly retreated to Drona’s shelter

A short while later, Alamvusa appeared at another place on battlefield & again began slaughtering Pāndava soldiers. Ghatotkaca rushed at Alamvusa & a fierce duel took place. Both created illusions, but each was able to destroy other’s display of mystic power with his own. As a result, neither Ghatotkaca nor Alamvusa could gain the upper hand

Bhima led many attacks on Alamvusa, which the Rāksasa countered them heroically, but he soon became surrounded & wounded by countless arrows. Seeing that his enemy had weakened, Ghatotkaca made up his mind to kill him without further delay. Rushing at him, he dragged Alamvusa from his chariot, picked him up over his head & after whirling him around, smashed him to ground so that all his limbs & bones were crushed as he gave up his life

We all can reject illusions & choose reality. For this to happen, we need to take employ our intelligence. Krsna says:

cetasā sarva-karmāṇi mayi sannyasya mat-paraḥ
buddhi-yogam upāśritya mac-cittaḥ satataṁ bhava

In all activities just depend upon Me and work always under My protection. In such devotional service, be fully conscious of Me

Real intelligence is to focus on the highest spiritual reality, Krsna, who is the source of all intelligence. Let us fill our hearts with pure love for the Supreme Lord & surrender at his Lotus feet. We can then be blessed to leave our other conceptions & relish the shelter & source of intelligence
