Steady Intelligence!
Abhimanyu picked a mace, after the wheel he was carrying was destroyed & rushed towards Asvatthama. Drona's son hurriedly jumped in the nick of time as Abhimanyu smashed his chariot to pieces with horses & driver
Covered all over with arrows, Abhimanyu looked like a porcupine & his clothes were dyed red from blood that flowed from his innumerable wounds. Still, the heroic son of Arjun proceeded to kill many Kaurava soldiers that stood in his path
When Abhimanyu rushed at Dusasana's son, the prince was forced to jump while his chariot was smashed. Mace in hand, Dusasana's son challenged Abhimanyu to fight & so the 2 young warriors began striking one another with heavy blows. As duel continued it so happened that two princes struck each other simultaneously & fell to ground same time
Dusasana's son was the first to get up & as Abhimanyu struggled to his feet, Kaurava prince struck him on the head very severely with his mace. Because of the terrible blow, Arjuna's incomparable son fell dead to the ground
All Kaurava warriors came & surrounded Abhimanyu, who looked like a great fire that had finally been extinguished after consuming an entire forest. While the kauravas shouted with joy, tears fell from the eyes of Pandava warriors. Voices in the sky exclaimed: Oh! the killing of Abhimanyu by the combined efforts of six great warriors was certainly an unrighteous act
All over the battlefield corpses of dead warriors & animals lay in heaps with smashed chariots & broken weapons. Due to this, in many places the field was impassable. The Sun had already set when Abhimanyu was killed & so the two armies gradually withdrew to their camps
This was the turning point in the great battle of Mahabharata. As Abhimanyu was killed unrighteously by the Kauravas, the flood gates opened & combat rules were subsequently disregarded. The only guiding light which remained was to destroy the Adharmic rulers at any cost
Principles are made & followed for our own good & larger benefit of societies we live in. Fools break rules for their own sense gratification & thus pay the price. Real intelligence is to be in control of senses restrained from their objects
Krsna says:
tasmād yasya mahā-bāho nigṛhītāni sarvaśaḥ
indriyāṇīndriyārthebhyas tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā
Therefore, O mighty-armed, one whose senses are restrained from their objects is certainly of steady intelligence
We can curb the forces of sense gratification only by means of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, or engaging all the senses in transcendental loving service of the Lord. As enemies are curbed by superior force, senses can similarly be curbed, not by any human endeavor, but only by keeping them engaged in the service of the Lord
One who understands this-that only by Kṛṣṇa consciousness is one really established in intelligence & that one should practice this art under the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master, is called a sādhaka, or a suitable candidate for liberation
