Patience & Persistence!

Kauravas made a combined attack upon Maharaj Yudhisthira. When he saw vast army approaching, Yudhisthira fearfully implored Dhrishtadyumna: O Prince, pls take necessary precautions so that Drona does not make good his vow

Dhrishtadyumna rushed at Drona, but a son of Dhritrāshtra named Durmukha intercepted him. While these two fought, Drona consumed the Pāndava army & when most of its warriors fled, he rushed at Yudhisthira without impediment. Satyajit charged at Drona piercing his driver with numerous arrows. When the driver lost consciousness, Satyajit cut down Drona’s emblem. Drona retaliated by breaking Satyajit’s bow in half. As Satyajit picked up more bows, Drona perfectly aimed arrows smashed them all. Finally, Drona cut off Satyajit’s head & so Yudhisthira fearfully began to flee from battlefield

Numerous Pāndava warriors rushed at Drona to rescue their king, but the Preceptor slaughtered all who dared come before him. Upon seeing his army’s plight, Yudhisthira returned to battle, supported by Sātyaki, Sikhandi, Dhrishtadyumna & other great chariot warriors

At last, being greatly afflicted, entire Pāndava army began to waver & so Yudhisthira once again fled from battle. Because of this Drona was able to freely slaughter whatever Pāndava soldiers remained in his vicinity & routed opposing army single-handedly. Kaurava warriors chased fleeing Pāndava soldiers & continued to slaughter them from behind

Upon seeing this triumph, Duryodhana felt great jubilation. He expressed his confidence to Karna by saying: After this defeat I think Pāndava army will abandon the desire to fight with us any further

Karna said: Pāndava army will soon regroup so that they can attack Drona with full force. We better go quickly & protect the Preceptor. By the time Duryodhana & his brothers came to where Drona was stationed, Pāndava warriors had already renewed their attack. Bhima, Sātyaki, Dhrishtadyumna, Nakula, Sahadeva, Abhimanyu & Ghatotkaca were leading, followed by 12000 Pāncala chariot warriors

During the fierce battle that followed between practically all the chief Pāndava & Kaurava heroes, Duryodhana led elephant division of his army in an attack on Bhima. The son of Vāyu soon drove back all elephants with showers of arrows so that only he & Duryodhana remained to face each other. After the two archenemies pierced one another with arrows for some time, Bhima broke Duryodhana’s bow & knocked his jewelled elephant emblem

Patience & persistence in challenging times are the hallmark of true warriors. When faced with tough situations which can bring negativity in our thoughts and force us to quit, we must patiently persist in our efforts. The situation will transform eventually

It’s all in the mind, which can either distort our thoughts to fail, or be strengthened by our will to succeed. Spiritual realization & engagement of efforts in the transcendental loving service of the Supreme Lord trumps all odds to achieve success
