Just an Instrument!

Maharaja Yudhisthira said: O Krsna, I'm convinced that, under Your protection, we will certainly come out victorious. However, under no circumstance do I want You to break Your promise of not picking up any weapon & take part in this war

Dear Lord, when I approached Bhisma to offer my respects before the battle began, the Grandsire explained how he was obliged to fight for Duryodhana. He also said that he would give me advice later on as to how I could achieve victory. I think that we should go to Bhisma now & request him to disclose the means whereby he can be killed

Sri Krsna liked this idea and so He replied: Yes, you should go to Bhisma now. According to his advice, you can arrange your strategy for tomorrow

The Pandavas & Sri Krsna cast aside their armor and weapons & went to the Kaurava camp. After entering Bhisma's tent they bowed down to the Grandsire & worshiped him with great respect. In turn Bhisma warmly welcomed Sri Krsna & the Pandavas and asked them what he could do

Yudhisthira affectionately requested: Dear Grandfather, please tell us how you can be killed so that we can come out victorious in this terrible battle and thereby regain our rightful kingdom

Bhisma replied: Son, as long as I remain alive you'll never have victory. Thus you should wholeheartedly endeavor to kill me without delay

Yudhisthira once again asked: By what means can you be vanquished? It appears that you are invincible

Bhisma disclosed: My dear Yudhisthira, it is a fact that as long as I've weapons in hand, I am invincible. But if I can be influenced to lay aside my weapons, I can be killed. I've vowed not to fight with Sikhandi, because he was formerly a girl. Therefore I suggest that Arjuna keep that son of Drupada in front while attacking me with his arrows. In that way it may be possible for me to be killed. Except for Sri Krsna and Arjuna, there is no one on the battlefield competent to vanquish me

After hearing this, the Pandavas once again worshiped Bhisma & then returned to their camp. With his face contorted with grief, Arjuna said: O Krsna, how can I possibly be expected to fight with my grandfather? When I was a small child I would climb on Bhisma's lap, thinking that he was my father. Only after a long time did he reluctantly inform me that he was not actually my father, but my grandfather

Krsna says to Arjun in Gita

tasmāt tvam uttiṣṭha yaśo labhasva jitvā śatrūn bhuṅkṣva rājyaṁ samṛddham

mayaivaite nihatāḥ pūrvam eva nimitta-mātraṁ bhava savya-sācin

Therefore get up. Prepare to fight & win glory. Conquer your enemies & enjoy a flourishing kingdom. They are already put to death by My arrangement, and you, O Savyasācī, can be but an instrument in the fight

We are just an instrument in the grand plans of Supreme Lord. If we participate then we earn glories. The whole cosmic manifestation is a chance for the conditioned souls to go back home, back to Godhead

Let’s be part of God’s plan! #gameoflife
