Dharmic injunctions!

Upon hearing Arjuna's command, Dhrstadyumna, Abhimanyu, Virata, Drupada, Kuntibhoja and many other great heroes combined to rush at Bhisma while the Kaurava warriors fearlessly came to resist them. At this time Duhsasana abandoned all fear of death to perform a wonderful feat by checking Arjuna as he advanced toward Bhisma

When Duhsasana pierced him in the forehead with an arrow and also struck Krsna with numerous shafts, Arjuna became inflamed with rage and drove the son of Dhrtarästra back to the shelter of Bhisma

At that time Drona observed many inauspicious signs. Because he was very expert in deciphering their meanings, he could understand that there would soon be a dreadful conflict between Bhisma and Arjuna. Drona thus ordered his son, Asvatthama, to come to Bhisma's aid by attacking Sikhandi

Krpa, Bhagadatta, Salya, Krtavarmā and Jayadratha ganged up on Bhima, showering upon him unlimited arrows. Bhima stood fast. After piercing all his adversaries in return, he broke Krpa's bow with a well-aimed arrow. Bhima next killed Jayadratha's horses and driver, making the king of the Sindh jump from his chariot. Then, as Jayadratha continued to release his arrows from the ground, Bhima broke his bow in half, forcing him to get on Chitrasena's chariot

Thereafter, as Bhima continued to check all the great Kuru warriors, Arjuna came to his aid. In response, Duryodhana ordered Susarmā and the Trigartas to attack Arjuna and thus thousands of chariot warriors rushed to attack him

While Bhima and Arjuna simultaneously checked the great Kuru warriors and slaughtered thousands of Trigartas, Bhisma and Duryodhana joined the fray. Dhrstadyumna led the Pandava army in a counterattack and thus all the Kauravas and Pandavas fought for the sake of Bhima so that the encounter became exceedingly gruesome

For ten days Bhisma relentlessly slaughtered the Pandava warriors, just as Arjuna massacred the Kaurava troops. Finally the Grandsire gave up all desire to continue fighting and so he said to Maharaja Yudhisthira: O King, I have given up all desire to protect my body from the onslaught of weapons. Therefore you and your brothers should attack me wholeheartedly to attain victory

When our efforts are for a higher cause & aligned to Dharmic injunction, the fervor and inspiration is on the high and remains there till our last breath. If not we lose interest and do not give our best. The materialistic viewpoint has limitations in invigorating us and it fizzles out with selfish overtones

Let us be aligned to the plans of the Supreme Lord & not get bewildered in between

śrī-bhagavān uvāca: Krsna says

aśocyān anvaśocas tvaṁ prajñā-vādāṁś ca bhāṣase

gatāsūn agatāsūṁś ca nānuśocanti paṇḍitāḥ

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: While speaking learned words, you are mourning for what is not worthy of grief. Those who are wise lament neither for the living nor for the dead
