Surrender!

As Arjun shot an arrow smashing Bhisma's bow to pieces, the grandsire quickly strung another bow but it was cut into pieces as well. Bhisma applauded this feat & after picking up another bow, continued showering arrows upon Sri Krsna & Arjuna

Krsna could see that Arjuna fought very mildly & because of this indifference Bhisma was able to slaughter many Pandava warriors. Indeed, Sri Krsna could not tolerate Arjuna's passivity. All of a sudden Krsna jumped from chariot, whip in hand. Roaring repeatedly, He rushed at Bhisma, desiring to kill him. Upon seeing this, all who were in vicinity were struck with wonder & exclaimed: Now Bhisma is slain!

Bhisma reverently addressed onrushing Krsna: O lotus-eyed Lord, I bow down to You, the supreme master of all demigods, headed by Lord Brahmä & Lord Siva. Pls come & strike me as You wish, for I'm Your eternal servant & am confident that after being killed by You I'll attain highest destination

Meanwhile, Arjuna had jumped from his chariot. After chasing Sri Krsna he finally caught Him in his arms. Still, Krsna continued to drag Arjuna for some distance. At last Arjuna was able to stop Lord's progress by grabbing His legs

With great anguish, Arjuna pleaded: Dear Krsna, pls don't break Your promise by taking part in this battle. Kindly give up Your anger. I assure You that I'll fight whole-heartedly & kill the Grandsire. Krsna appeared to be exceedingly grave. Without replying, He turned back & remounted Arjuna's chariot

Bhisma resumed fighting & his dense showers of arrows rained down so forcefully that entire Pandava army began fleeing from battle. At this time, the sun was setting

When Yudhisthira saw that his army was incapable of facing Bhisma, he ordered its withdrawal for the night. Thereafter, while returning to their military camp, Kaurava warriors worshiped Bhisma for his having vanquished Pandav army

That night, Pandavas called for a meeting. They were in great anxiety after having witnessed Bhisma's unrivaled prowess. Yudhisthira lamented:O Krsna, I think that Grandsire is invincible. I'd rather retire to forest than become the cause of everyone's destruction at his hands

Krsna said: Yudhisthira, you shouldn't lament. If Arjuna is unwilling to kill Bhisma, I'll do so as soon as you give Me the order. Anyone who is Pandavas' enemy is My enemy & indeed, for Arjuna's sake, I'd be willing to cut the flesh from My arm & give it in charity

As we surrender to Supreme Lord, all problems we face becomes His problems. All our sins are vanquished & He gives us intelligence to perform actions by which we can go back home to His abode. All the ills facing us are destroyed by this simple masterstroke of surrender in the mood of devotion

sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja

ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

Abandon all varieties of religion & just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear
