Lamentation!

Duryodhana went to Bhisma & with great anguish humbly said: Ghatotkaca has completely routed my army. I beg you to do something that will somehow enable me to kill this terrible son of Bhima

Bhisma said: It is the duty of a king to fight with another king. Therefore you should fight with Yudhisthira & other Pandavas. Leave Ghatotkaca to your leading warriors. Now let us send Bhagadatta to contend with ferocious Raksasa.

As Bhagadatta advanced onto battlefield, along with his soldiers, Bhima, Abhimanyu & Ghatotkaca confronted him with support of Pandava army. Bhima quickly killed the one hundred warriors protecting Bhagadatta from the rear & so the ruler of Prägiyotisa-pura urged his gigantic elephant to attack the son of Vayu

Pandava army surrounded Bhagadatta while showering their weapons upon him. The King tolerated this onslaught & by continuing to prod his elephant he made the colossal beast crush 1000's of enemy soldiers. In response, Ghatotkaca angrily hurled a fierce dart at Bhagadatta, who easily cut it to pieces with his arrows & then retaliated by throwing a blazing lance

Ghatotkaca displayed amazing prowess & dexterity by leaping into air, catching the lance with his bare hands, and breaking it in half over his knee. When they saw this spectacular feat, even demigods watching from the sky were struck with wonder

Enraged Bhagadatta picked up his bow & after piercing all Pandava warriors opposing him, killed Bhima's horses, cut down his royal emblem & deeply wounded his driver, Visoka, making him fall to the floor. Bereft of a charioteer, Bhima picked up his mace & jumped to ground, causing many Kaurava warriors to panic.

Arjuna rushed to Bhima's aid. At this time Bhima informed Sri Krsna & Arjuna about Iravan's death. Upon hearing this news, Arjuna became so aggrieved that he exclaimed: O Krsna, this war is so repugnant & sinful! Simply for the sake of some wealth, we're fighting at the cost of so many lives

It would be much nobler for me to give up my life rather than fight with & kill all my friends & relatives, simply for some material gain. Now I can understand Yudhisthira's wisdom in requesting only 5 villages so that we could avoid this abominable war. Of course, because wicked Duryodhana refused even that offer, I'm now forced to fight, so that others may not call me a coward

We should fight for the pleasure of the Lord & not lament for consequences to the self. Knowledge means to know matter & spirit and the controller of both. Arjuna argues that religious principles should be given more importance than politics or sociology, but he didn't know that knowledge of matter, soul & the Supreme is even more important than religious formularies

The body is born & is destined to be vanquished today or tomorrow, therefore the body is not as important as the soul. One who knows this is actually learned & for him there is no cause for lamentation, regardless of the condition of material body
