Law
of Karma!
Next
morning on the 6th day of battle, King Yudhisthira ordered
Dhrstadyumna to arrange the Pāndava forces in makara formation. Bhisma
countered with crane-shaped formation. At the beginning of the day, Bhima &
Arjun continued their massacre of Kaurava soldiers
Dhritrāshtra
said to Sanjay: Since our warriors are repeatedly vanquished, despite them
being protected by greatest military commanders-Bhisma & Drona-it must be
due to destiny alone. Similarly, it must be due to will of the creator that
Duryodhana never listened to the good advice given to him by Vidura, me &
many others
Sanjaya
replied: This great calamity has come about due to your own fault alone. Your
foolish son couldn’t see the danger in creating enmity with Pāndavās. However,
even though you could understand the dangerous consequences, you condoned
Duryodhana’s sinister plans
That
morning, while wandering thro’ the Kaurava ranks, creating a great slaughter of
men & animals, Bhima came upon the sons of Dhritrāshtra. The Dhārtarāshtrās
immediately surrounded him hoping to take revenge & they were aided by 1000’s
of chariot warriors. Bhima picked up his mace & got down from his chariot
to fight with his adversaries
Dhrstadyumna
saw Bhima enter the Kaurava army alone & so he left aside fighting with
Drona to come to his aid. When he came upon Bhima’s empty chariot, he momentarily
became overwhelmed with grief, thinking that Bhima had been slain. With voice
choked with tears, he made inquiries from Bhima’s chariot driver, Visoka, who
then informed him that Bhima had dismounted so that he could attack the
Kauravas on foot
Dhrstadyumna
followed the path consisting of innumerable dead elephants that had been
smashed by Bhima’s mace. Soon he saw Bhima engaged in slaughtering the enemy
warriors. Since the son of Vāyu was surrounded by the Dhārtarāshtrās &
appeared to be greatly afflicted by their weapons, Dhrstadyumna quickly went
& took him on his chariot. He extracted arrows sticking in Bhima’s body &
embraced him with great affection
When
Duryodhana saw how Bhima & Dhrstadyumna were on the same chariot, he urged
his brothers to launch an all-out attack. Thereafter, when Dhārtarāshtrās began
showering their arrows, Dhrstadyumna became highly enraged. With desire to kill
them all, he invoked the pramohana weapon. As a result, Dhārtarāshtrās fell
into a stupor & upon seeing this Kaurava warriors supporting them fled in
fear
Drona
could see how Dhritrāshtra’s sons were deprived of their senses & so he
quickly utilized the Prajna weapon to neutralize the pramohana weapon
We
just cannot say that it is the will of providence that we are where we are. In
doing so, we may be led to believe that whatever is happening in our lives is
already destined by our past karma, and our present actions wouldn’t make any
difference
It
is true that many of our present situations are unavoidable consequences of our
past karmas, but our present actions do matter. By our present actions we can
create a better brighter future no matter how dark the present seems or how
limited our present choices appear. The law of Karma contributes to the message
of hope, positivity & encouragement. It guides us to take responsibility for
creating a better future
