Victory!

It was early in morning as both sides awaited the rising of Sun, a brisk wind carried drops of water & thunder was heard, although not a cloud was seen in sky. After some time, the wind picked up so that not only was there a dust storm, but even small pebbles were blown here & there. Meteors fell from the sky & earth trembled. When the Sun rose, it lacked its usual splendor. And yet both armies looked magnificent & all warriors appeared jubilant in anticipation

When Maharaj Yudhisthira saw the vast Kaurava army with Bhisma in its midst, he became disheartened & his face became pale. He said to his brother Arjun: I don’t think that we have a chance for victory. The vast army containing so many illustrious warriors appears impenetrable

Arjun said: Dear brother, you must remain confident, knowing that even though we are inferior in numbers, victory is always with the righteous. You have forgotten that Lord Krsna is protecting us? Sri Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and is the possessor of unlimited potencies. Therefore, victory is inherent in Him. Pls cast off your doubts & rest assure that because Sri Krsna has taken our side, victory is certain

Hearing this Maharaj Yudhisthira confidence became somewhat restored. He encouraged his warriors & then ceremoniously gave charity to Brahmanas. When the Kaurava army slowly approached to begin fighting, Sri Krsna who was seated as Arjuna’s chariot driver, said: O son of Kunti, since Bhisma is the commander-in-chief, you should make your main business to fight with him. First, I want you to purify yourself & then worship My Supreme potency in the form of Goddess Durga, so as to gain her blessings for victory

Arjun got down from his chariot. With folded hands he offered prayers in praise of Goddess Durga, addressing her as Yogmaya, Sri Krsna’s younger sister. Being pleased with his act of devotion, Goddess Durga suddenly appeared in the sky & declared: Dear Arjun! Rest assure that you will soon come out victorious over your formidable enemies. Because Sri Krsna has become your ally, even the demigods could not vanquish you in battle

Sanjay says in Bhagvad Gita:

yatra yogeśvaraḥ kṛṣṇo yatra pārtho dhanur-dharaḥ

tatra śrīr vijayo bhūtir dhruvā nītir matir mama

Wherever there is Kṛṣṇa, the master of all mystics, and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer, there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality. That is my opinion

The supreme instruction of morality is stated in the verse: man-manā bhava mad-bhaktaḥ. One must become a devotee of Kṛṣṇa & the essence of all religion is to surrender unto Kṛṣṇa (sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja). The instructions of Gita constitute the supreme process of religion & of morality. All other processes may be purifying & may lead to this process, but the last instruction of Gītā is the last word in all morality & religion: Surrender unto Kṛṣṇa

That alone is path to victory
