Cross-over!

After giving blessings to Arjun, Goddess Durgā disappeared from view. Hearing her words, Arjun became confident that his victory was assured. He got back onto his chariot & joyfully blew his mighty conch shell, as did Sri Krsna

Sanjay said: My dear Dhritrāshtra, you should know that wherever the is Sri Krsna, there is victory. Therefore, you can understand without doubt that your sons are now hopelessly entangled in the meshes of death’s net

Dhritrāshtra inquired: O Sanjay! What did my sons & the sons of Pāndu do after having assembled at the holy place of pilgrimage, Kurukshetra?

Sanjay replied: O king, your son Duryodhana went to Dronācharya & said: My dear preceptor, pls make sure that you fight whole-heartedly against your disciples, especially Dhrishtadyumna, who has arranged the Pāndava army. Under the care of Bhisma, our army is practically unlimited in strength, but because the Grandsire has become old, you & the other great warriors should give him careful protection

Just then Bhisma blew his mighty conch shell & its lion-like roar gave great joy to Duryodhana. When the others on the Kaurava side responded by blowing their conch shells & bugles, the combined sound became tumultuous

Sri Krsna & Arjun then blew their transcendental conch shells, the Pāncajanya & Devadatta, shattering the hearts of Dhritrāshtra’s sons. Arjun requested Krsna: My Lord, pls drive my chariot in between the 2 armies & exclaimed: O Arjuna, just see all Kurus that have come here to fight!

When Arjun saw how his relatives, teachers & friends have come before him in a fighting spirit, he became overwhelmed by compassion. With a faltering voice he said: O Krsna, my mouth is drying up, my hair is standing on end & the Gāndiva bow is slipping from my hand. My mind is reeling so that I can hardly remain here any longer

I have lost all desire for victory. Even if we regain our kingdom, we will still be the losers. After killing all those with whom we wish to enjoy life, how can there be happiness? How can I attack with arrows those who are my superiors? It would be better for me to face the enemy unarmed, or else retire to the forest or live by begging, rather than kill those who are fit to be worshiped

How fast the situation changes from inspirational to depressing. This also happens to us so many times, where in a moment our disposition changes from enthusiasm to apathy. But if we have the Supreme Lord or His devotee on our side, we can cross this roller coaster & be focused on delivering our responsibility. That is why it is very important to be in association of devotees. This eliminates lamentation & cross over to become a learned person
