Sway!
After celestial
sages were seated, presentations of Arghya were made & everyone took their
seats. Vidura sat next to Krsna & close by, Duryodhana shared the same
couch. Without uttering a word, the entire assembly looked towards Sri Krsna
with unsatiated eyes. Indeed, the air became thick with their anxious
expectation
Lord Krsna
addressed Dhritrāshtra in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear: Dear King
of Kurus, I have come to Hastināpur for the purpose of establishing peace
between Pāndavās & Kauravās, and for no other reason. Kuru dynasty has a
history of spotless glory & all its descendants were great saintly kings
worthy of legendary fame. It would be a shame if you now perform an act not
befitting your great lineage
Dear Dhritrāshtra!
You should restrain your wicked son, for he acts most abominably towards his
cousins. The blame for present danger rests entirely upon shoulders of you
& your sons, and a great slaughter will ensue if you don’t accept a
peaceful settlement. We can rectify the situation, for if you bring your sons
into line, I will pacify the Pāndavās
O King! Don’t you
see what a glorious position you would be in if you had both Pāndavās &
your sons by your side? You would surely control the kingdom of entire earth
& thus live peacefully and happily, without anxiety. On the other hand, how
can you expect to be happy by allowing either your sons or the Pāndavās to be
killed in battle? You should avert mass destruction by establishing peaceful
relations with Pāndu sons
Now I will repeat
the message Pāndavās sent to you: Venerable Uncle! We have successfully
completed our term of exile that we underwent at your command. Now you should
keep your part of agreement by giving us back our kingdom. We assure you that
if you do so, we will always remain obedient towards you
Lord Krsna then
appealed to the assembly by saying: Dear respected kings, I urge all of you to
follow virtuous path after ascertaining what is justly deserved by Pāndavās
Turning once again
to Dhritrāshtra, Sri Krsna concluded: You must remember how, after you had
tried to burn Pāndavās to death, they had returned to Hastināpur & placed
their trust in you as if nothing had happened. I desire welfare of both your
sons & those of your brother Pāndu. Pāndavās are prepared to either serve
you or fight against your sons. It is up to you to adopt whichever path you
feel is in your best interest
Duryodhana listening
to these words thought: These words have no meaning to me & I will not to
give anything to Pāndavās
To be under sway of
our mind is a recipe for disaster. We are different from our mind & this is
evident from the fact that we are different from our desires. We are spiritual
beings situated in a material body with a subtle mind. Desires can be seen as
an outcome of our mind’s default reaction to objects that seem attractive. We
should be a detached observer of our mind & instead of giving in to its
sway, need to be in full control of our decision making with intelligence based
on higher purpose
Are we also swayed?
Thoughts?
