When Sri Krsna came to the precincts of Kuru capital Hastinapur, all Dhritrāshtra’s sons, except Duryodhana, came out of the city to welcome Him, along with Bhisma, Drona, Krpa & thousands of citizens. Surrounded by a great crowd, Krsna majestically entered the city, which was gorgeously decorated in His honor. Without exception, every man, woman & child came out of their houses to see Krsna & thus the streets were lined with people
As Krsna proceeded
very slowly thro’ crowded streets, everyone reverently stood with folded hands
& bowed heads while chanting His glories. At last Krsna came to royal palace
& as He entered the assembly, all stood up to offer respects. The Lord
first approached Dhritrāshtra & Bhisma and worshipped them. He then greeted
other kings in order of seniority. Finally, at King’s request He sat upon a
special throne of beautiful workmanship that was made of gold & bedecked
with jewels
Royal priests came
& ceremoniously presented a cow, honey & other auspicious articles to Sri
Krsna. When formal reception was concluded, Krsna began to joke & converse
with Kurus, according to His relationship with them. After some time, He took
permission from Dhritrāshtra & proceeded to Vidura’s residence
When Vidura saw
that Krsna had arrived, he quickly came out of his house, presented many
auspicious articles & glorified Him with nice prayers. Vidura inquired about
Pāndavās & Krsna described their activities in great detail, for He knew
that Vidura has always been their protector & well-wisher. Finally, after
conversing for some time, Krsna left to meet Kunti devi
When Queen Kunti
saw Sri Krsna, she got up & embraced Him with great joy while tears flowed
from her eyes in torrents. She was seeing her nephew after long time. Giving
vent to her long-held grief she said: Lord! Pls tell me about my sons. How
could my boys, who were accustomed to the comforts of royal luxury, pass such a
long time in forest? How is Draupadi? She is even dearer to me than my sons
My dear Krsna! I’m
so happy to see You, and yet at the same time I’m overwhelmed by grief,
thinking of my poor children. It is now just about a year since Arjun
vanquished all Kurus when they attacked Virāta’s kingdom. Still, I’m confident that
if my sons stick to the path of virtue, they will soon regain their rightful
kingdom. I remember how at the time of Arjun’s birth, a voice from sky had
announced that he would one day conquer the entire earth. After killing the Kurus
in battle, he would perform 3 great sacrifices, along with his brothers
As Kunti wept remembering
her sons, Krsna consoled her
We all face losses
in our lives, but we should not be lost in its travesties. Rather we should be
full of gratitude for what the Supreme Lord has given us and reorient our
thought process encountering life’s crossroads. When we are full of gratitude,
it gives us the ability to be positive in all situations and make concerted
efforts to bounce back
Here Queen Kunti
says that if her sons stick to the path of virtue, then despite all the odds
they would return victorious
Huge lessons for
all of us in facing life amid losses
