Manners!
As Vidura said that
Sri Krsna should not have come to Hastināpur as Duryodhana will not listen to
Him, Krsna said: Dear Vidura! Your truthful words are just befitting a sincere
friend. I know fully well Duryodhana’s wicked intentions & yet I feel that
it’s My duty to make an attempt to bring about peace. If a person sincerely
endeavors to perform a virtuous act to the best of his ability, then even if he
fails, he still earns great merit. But if someone only contemplates an impious
act but does not actually perform it, it will not receive a sinful reaction
The impending
calamity of war is entirely due to Duryodhana’s wickedness. Still, a person who
does not try by all means to rescue a friend from performing a disastrous act,
even to the extent of grabbing him by hair, is also a wretch. On other hand,
one who makes all endeavors to save a misguided person is glorious
Even if Duryodhana
doesn’t listen to My advice, My conscience will be clear & no one will be
able to accuse Me of not having tried to settle the dispute peacefully
The next morning,
as dawn broke, professional singers came to awaken Sri Krsna & He got up
& bathed. He then sat down to recite Vedic mantras & pour offerings of
ghee & grains into sacrificial fire. After this, the Lord dressed & as Sun
became visible above horizon, He engaged in worshipping Surya
Just at this time,
Duryodhana & Sakuni came to visit Krsna. They said: O best of Yādavās! Dhritrāshtra
is seated in royal assembly, surrounded by all kings of the earth & he
solicits your presence. I will come shortly, said Krsna
Krsna then called
for brāhmanās & after giving them cows, horses, gold in charity, He
circumambulated them & the sacrificial fire. He then set off in a grand
procession on His chariot. 1000’s of soldiers, 500 elephants preceded Lord
Krsna, while Vidura Duryodhana & Sakuni followed Him. Conch shells &
musical instruments played along & all citizens came into streets to see Him.
The Lord magnanimously glanced at everyone & people glorified Him with
heartfelt praises
Sri Krsna came to
the royal court & trumpets were blown to announce His arrival. Hairs of
assembled kings stood on end seeing the Supreme Lord. Krsna’s splendor &
effulgence eclipsed the glory of all others present. Dhritrāshtra rose from his
seat to honor Krsna & other 1000’s of kings followed his example. The Lord
was seated upon a magnificent throne built specially for Him. After sitting the
Lord greeted all according to seniority
Sri Krsna saw that
celestial sages led by Nārada were assembled in the sky so that they could witness
this historic event & so He instructed Bhisma to invite them into the
assembly so that they could be worshipped
Etiquette is very essential
part of our dealings with outer world. It brings semblance to our thoughts &
our consciousness. Manners are sensitive to the feelings of others and acting
properly gives a huge impetus to the depth of our relationships. The more
mature a person is, the more sensitive he is to emulate the teachings of Vedic
scriptures and live by it. Here Sri Krsna shows us the way despite He being the
Supreme Lord
Are we careful in
our manners?
Thoughts?
