Karna said to Sri Krsna: Pls ensure that all Kshatriyas who take part in this great war will meet with a glorious death. Let the battle be fought at holy place of pilgrimage, Kurukshetra, so that all great heroes on both sides will attain heavenly destination


Krsna enquired: Karna! Does not the thought of becoming the emperor of entire world appeal to you at all? When Karna remained silent, Krsna could understand his determination was fixed & so He ceased from any further attempt to persuade him to join Pāndavās


Sri Krsna said: Karna you should return to Hastinapur now & give this message to Bhisma, Drona & Krpa: Leaders of Kuru army! The present month is very pleasant as weather is not too hot nor too cold. The roads are dry, there are practically no flies & the trees are filled with fruits. Therefore after 7 days, upon the appearance of new moon, let the battle between you & Pandavas begin. You should assure the assembled kings that I will fulfill their cherished desire to attain higher regions after death


Karna said: I am certain that Duryodhana will be vanquished by Pandavas. I have seen many frightening omens in Kaurava camp that indicate an impending slaughter. The elephants & horses shed tears, and they no longer take pleasure in eating or drinking. Kaurav soldiers pass large quantities of stool, in spite of eating very little. Their drums make practically no sound when beaten, whereas the Pandavas drums resound when being struck


The wells in our camp make loud booming sounds. The demigods shower flesh & blood on our soldiers. I have heard terrifying cries of fierce birds having only one leg. Kaurav warriors frequently show disrespect towards the brahmanas. Wherever I cast my glance, it appears that all directions are ablaze & thus a great annihilation appears to be at hand


At night while sleeping, I had a mystical vision wherein I saw Yudhisthira enter a great palace along with his brothers, all dressed in white robes. Then the scene changed & I saw that You covered entire earth with weapons while Yudhisthira got onto a pile of bones & ate Kirā from a golden cup. After that You handed over the earth to Yudhisthira & he swallowed it. I saw Bhima, mace in hand standing on top of the world as if indicating that he would kill all Kauravās in battle


I also saw all Kauravās wearing blood red crowns except Asvattāma, Krpā & Krtvarmā, who wore white ones. I saw Bhisma & Drona on chariot drawn by camels & proceeding towards abode of Yamarāja, so did Duryodhana & I on similar chariot


tasmāc chāstraṁ pramāṇaṁ te kāryākārya-vyavasthitau

jñātvā śāstra-vidhānoktaṁ karma kartum ihārhasi

 

One should therefore understand what is duty & what is not duty by the regulations of the scriptures. Knowing such rules & regulations, one should act so that he may gradually be elevated


In human society, aversion to principles of understanding Supreme Lord is the cause of all fall downs & is the biggest offense of human life

  Principles to fight & die for! Arjun had Uttara halt his chariot at some distance from Kaurav army to survey the opposition. He thought that if he could simply vanquish Duryodhana, other Kauravas would automatically desist. But he noted that Duryodhana was absent. Arjun ordered Uttara: Avoiding the Kaurav army, take the road to Hastināpur so that we can overtake Duryodhana and retrieve the plundered cows   From Arjun’s course, Krpā could understand his intention & so he had ordered the entire Kaurav army to go & protect Duryodhana.
