Divine or demoniac?
Queen Kunti said: Krsna, the pangs of separation I feel because of the absence of my children are more painful than the grief I experienced upon death of my husband. You should encourage Pāndavās to fulfill their duty & fight for their paternal kingdom. I’m not so aggrieved that my sons lost their kingdom after being cheated at dice by Sakuni. But I’ll never forget the way in which Draupadi was insulted by being dragged into Kuru assembly while dressed in but a single piece of cloth
Kunti-devi inquired about her sons, one after another, & she continued to vent her grief. Krsna tried to console her, saying: Dear Aunt! Even though you take your life to be miserable, it is actually very glorious because you are the wife & mother of such great heroes. You must be patient & try to tolerate the dualities of material existence
Only mediocre people aspire for an easy-going life of uneventfulness that is devoid of challenge & struggle. In fact, superior persons prefer extremes of intense happiness or utter misery but abhor dull middle ground. Your sons & Draupadi inquire after your welfare & they send their messages to you that they are well. Queen Kunti felt relieved hearing Krsna’s words. She said: I know that You are the Supreme Lord & shelter of everyone & everything. So I’m confident that You will arrange for best welfare of my sons without sacrificing the cause of virtue
Lord Krsna took permission & departed after circumambulating Kunti-devi. He next went to Duryodhana’s palace & without even bothering to introduce His arrival, went inside. The guards let Krsna enter freely. He saw Duryodhana seated upon his throne, surrounded by the Kurus & thousands of other kings. By Duryodhana side were Dushasana, Karna & Sakuni, & when Krsna entered, everyone stood up to honor Him
Lord was offered a golden throne & was worshipped by all Kauravas. After formalities were over, Duryodhana respectfully invited Krsna to dine with him, but in response the Lord tactfully refused. Using sweet words to cover his deceitfulness, Duryodhana asked: Dear Krsna! Why You have refused my invitation? Previously You had promised to help both sides in impending war. Why are You now acting inimically?
Krsna said: Dear King! Envoys accept food & honor only after the success of their mission. If My visit proves fruitful, I will accept your invitation with pleasure
There is a clear difference in the behavior of divine & demoniac persons. Here Queen Kunti shows all divine qualities viz. self-control, austerity, simplicity, truthfulness, aversion to faultfinding, compassion, gentleness, modesty, forgiveness, fortitude & such transcendental qualities but Duryodhana shows the opposite
The demoniac doesn’t know what is to be done & what not. They show no intelligence & engage in unbeneficial, horrible works meant to destroy the world. They don’t believe in Supreme Lord but only themselves
What behavior we exhibit?
