Cleansing!

Sri Krsna offered His obeisances to Kunti-devi & after circumambulating her, He departed. The Kuru warriors continued to follow Krsna, but at last they returned except Karna, whom the Lord took on His chariot. As Krsna rode out of the city & after talking to Karna for some time, He made him turn back as well

As Krsna quickly proceeded towards Upaplavya, along with Sātyaki, all the Kurus exclaimed: Now we are surely doomed because Duryodhana has foolishly ignored Sri Krsna’s advice!

Bhisma & Drona went to see Duryodhana & informed him of Queen Kunti’s message to her sons. In this way, they assured him that Pāndavās would soon give up their forgiving attitude & attempts for peace too. They also informed Duryodhana about inauspicious omens seen around Hastināpur & concluded by saying: You should embrace Pāndavās brotherly affection, unless you desire to lie down dead on battlefield

Duryodhana simply remained silent, while gloomily hanging his head down

Bhisma said: The greatest sorrow for us is that we’ll have to fight against faultlessly pious Maharāj Yudhisthira. Drona added: I’ve more affection for Arjun than I do for my own son Asvattāma. I curse the Kshatriya profession for being forced to fight against him

Even though a sinful person may temporarily be dissuaded from committing a sinful act, the sinful desire will remain within his mind. On the other hand, even if a pious person is sometimes tempted by sin, he is never willing to abandon his dedication to the cause of righteousness

Duryodhana! Even if though you acted deceitfully towards Yudhisthira, Pāndavās are willing to make peace so that you can live prosperously. You should appreciate the Pāndavās piety & give up your enmity towards them

Meanwhile, being very curious to find out what had happened when Sri Krsna had taken Karna on His chariot, Dhritrāshtra inquired about this from Sanjaya

Sanjaya said: After taking Karna on His chariot, Sri Krsna spoke to him at great length & said: My dear Karna! When a son is born to a girl before her marriage, he is considered to be son of the man who she marries later on. Thus, you are really Pāndu’s son & so you should join your brothers, the Pāndavās. If you do so I can assure you that Pāndavās will worship you as their eldest brother, as well as their allies. Thus, it will be you, and not Yudhisthira, who becomes the emperor of the entire earth

In Srimad Bhagvatam, it is said:

tais tāny aghāni pūyante tapo-dāna-vratādibhiḥ

nādharmajaṃ tad-hṛdayaṃ tad apīśāṅghri-sevayā

Although one may neutralize the reactions of sinful life through austerity, charity, vows and other such methods, these pious activities cannot uproot the material desires in one’s heart. However, if one serves the lotus feet of the Personality of Godhead, he is immediately freed from all such contaminations

To whom we surrender to uproot our material desires?
