Are we responsible!
Dhritrāshtra called for Gāndhari with the hope that she might be able to rectify her wicked son. Thereafter, when she entered the assembly escorted by Vidura, Dhritrāshtra said: Our son has disregarded my commands. Out of greed & envy he is ready to sacrifice the lives of all the Kuru warriors and their allies. Even though his superiors gave him very good advice, Duryodhana responded by storming out of the assembly in an angry mood
Gandhāri said: My dear husband! Call for our wicked son. Still, it is you alone who must accept the blame for our present crisis. You always conceded to the demands of our deluded son & now you’re reaping the bitter results of foolishly handing over the kingdom to one who is not only unqualified, but guided by evil minded ministers as well
Soon Duryodhana entered the royal assembly. Due to anger, his eyes were red & his breathing was heavy. When Gāndhari understood that Duryodhana had come before her, she rebuked him with harsh words & then implored: My foolish son, you should obey the commands of your superiors & make peace with Pāndavās. First conquer your lust & anger and then think about conquering the earth. Why can’t you give up your insatiable greed & remain satisfied with ruling half the earth?
Duryodhana did not care for his mother’s words, however without even replying, he left the assembly along with Karna, Dushasana & Sakuni. Consulting one another, these four decided that since Krsna, Dhritrāshtra & Bhisma had advocated capturing Duryodhana, they should preempt this move by seizing Krsna first. As a result, they reasoned, the Pāndavās would surely lose heart and be easily defeated
Sātyaki soon came to know of this wicked plan, for he had the ability to read the hearts of others by external signs. Thus, he came out of the assembly & ordered the Yādava army to assemble at its entrance. Sātyaki then re-entered the assembly hall & while informing Sri Krsna & Vidura of the plot, he laughed heartily at the thought of how Duryodhana foolishly hoped to capture the Absolute Truth, the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Pampering our kids is a serious disservice to them. If from childhood, we are not inculcating dharmic values and spoil them by supporting whatever they do, then we should not be parents. Here unbridled Duryodhana goes to an extent of even capturing the Supreme Lord. We see many such atheist today, who are working against the tenets of Dharma & causing so much disturbance as a result
Srimad Bhagvatam says:
gurur na sa syāt sva-jano na sa syāt
pitā na sa syāj jananī na sā syāt
daivaṁ na tat syān na patiś ca sa syān
na mocayed yaḥ samupeta-mṛtyum
One who cannot deliver his dependents from the path of repeated birth and death should never become a spiritual master, a father, a husband, a mother or a worshipable demigod
We all have responsibilities to imbibe spiritual values to our dependents
