Dhritrāshtra asked Sanjay: Pls relate to me Lord Krsna’s words

Sanjay said: Dear King! I was fortunate to be admitted into inner apartments where the Lord resided along with Satyabhāma. Arjun was also there with Draupadi. Even Abhimanyu was not allowed to go there. As I entered, Arjun offered me a nice seat, but out of respect I sat on floor. When I gathered courage to gaze upon Krsna & Arjun, I became awestruck & fearful, for it appeared as if Lord Vishnu & Indra were present before me

At that moment I became fully convinced that Maharāj Yudhisthira would be victorious. I then related to them Duryodhana’s message. Lord Krsna spoke the following message, which He asked to be heard by the entire assembly of Kurus: Do you find yourselves happily engaged in your activities, knowing that Yudhisthira is determined to regain his lost kingdom?

I’m highly obligated to Pāndavās due to their unalloyed devotion & I’ve not even begun to repay that debt. As I’ve pledged My help, even Indra would not foolishly dare to fight with Arjun, unless he is anxious to give up his life

Hearing from Sanjay, Dhritrāshtra carefully weighed relative strengths of Pāndavās & Kauravas. By doing so, he was convinced of Pāndavās superiority. With this conviction, the old blind king told his son: You should keep in mind Pāndavās celestial origin & consider how demigods will surely come to their aid, due to family affection. Agni will certainly help Arjun, being grateful for his help to devour Khāndava forest. This thought fills me with anxiety, for our doom seems to be near. Son! Pls make peace with Pāndavās

This only made Duryodhana angry & he replied: The demigods have attained their exalted positions by renouncing worldly desires. Why should they meddle in the affairs of human beings? If they are looking after Pāndavās’ welfare, how could they’ve become overwhelmed by misfortune at the first place? Even if they come to Pāndavās’ aid, what does it matter?

My strength is greater that theirs! Even if the earth is split into 2, I would reunite it. If so desired, I could stop the universal dissolution that takes placve at the end of Brahmā’s day. I’m not saying this out of pride, for never before I’ve praised myself. I’m telling you this for your information, so that your unwarranted fears are dispelled

Karna said to Duryodhana: There is no need for you to feel that you must rely only on your own prowess, for I alone can vanquish the Pāndavās

Supporting someone in times of dire need, especially if he is your friend, is indeed desirable. But bloating their false ego is not help but a serious disservice. Karna despite being defeated by Pāndavās in couple of occasion still felt & believed in the impossible of getting the better of Pāndavās, and made Duryodhana also believe in the same foolhardiness

We also see in teams the same faults, being professed in the name of support. We need to have a rational approach to reality & thus act accordingly
