Auspiciousness!
As Sri Krsna came
far, He requested Maharāj Yudhisthira to turn back to Upaplavya. The king
circumambulated the Lord & began to depart. Proceeding a short distance
further, Arjun said: Dear Lord! If Duryodhana respectfully honors You &
returns half the kingdom to Yudhisthira, I’ll be happy to forgo fighting with Kurus.
But if Dhritrāshtra’s son acts otherwise, I hereby vow to exterminate all the Kshatriyās
who oppose us on field
Hearing this, Bhima
let out a ferocious shout embodying his great delight at Arjun’s heroic words,
as well as the rage he felt at the mention of Duryodhana’s name. When assembled
warriors heard this terrifying sound, they trembled with fright & their
horses and elephants passed stool and urine. Arjun embraced Krsna bidding Him
farewell & after taking permission, he also turned back. Dāruka urged on
the horses, so that Krsna’s chariot soon left behind everyone that followed Him
While going to Hastināpur,
Krsna came upon some celestial sages standing by the side of road. Stopping His
chariot, Krsna got down so that He could offer His respects to the sages. After
worshipping them, Krsna inquired about their welfare & their purpose for
descending upon earth
Parsurāma stepped
forward. After embracing Krsna, he said: Lord! These celestial sages, who
formerly witnessed many battles between demigods & demons, are very anxious
to hear the excellent, truthful & beneficial words You will say in the
assembly of Kurus. We’re also very curious to see how Bhisma, Vidura & the
others will reply. Sages then took permission & departed. Krsna continued
his journey, accompanied by 10 mighty chariot warriors, 1000 cavalry, 1000
infantry & 100’s of servants
As Krsna set out,
numerous omens manifested in Hastināpur & throughout the land. Thunder
roared in cloudless sky with flashes of lightning & earth trembled. Fires
were seen blazing in all directions & 7 large rivers, headed by Sindhu
flowed in opposite direction. Violent storm brewed & dust rose in all
directions. Torrential rains & violent winds ensued, uprooting 100’s of
trees as storm lashed
On the other hand,
as Lord Krsna passed along the road, He experienced gentle & fragrant
breezes as celestial flowers fell from sky & everything appeared very
auspicious. Wherever Krsna stopped on way, 1000’s of brāhmanās worshipped Him
with presentations of yogurt, ghee, honey & wealth, while village women
showered flowers. Indeed, all villagers crowded around just to have a look at
the Lord’s incomparable transcendental beauty
At nightfall, when
Krsna stopped at Vrkasthala, He got down from chariot & performed customary
purificatory rites. He ordered Dāruka to unharness the horses, while He went to
say evening prayers. Brāhmanās of the village came & placed their houses
& possessions at His disposal. Krsna magnanimously accepted their
invitations & visited their homes. All were in awe of the Lord
Wherever Sri Krsna
is present, everything looks auspicious. Krsna says in Gita
ahaṁ sarvasya
prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ
I am the source of
all spiritual & material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who
perfectly know this engage in My devotional service & worship Me with all
their hearts
There is no supreme
controller other than Kṛṣṇa. One who understands Kṛṣṇa in such a way from a
bona fide spiritual master, with references from Vedic literature, engages all
his energy in Kṛṣṇa consciousness & becomes a truly learned man
