Aggressors!
Sri Krsna said to Bhima: Tomorrow, I’ll set out for Hastināpur. If I am able to bring about a peaceful settlement, it will bring Me great fame, it will serve your purpose, and will benefit Kauravas as well. However, if wicked Duryodhana doesn’t relent, war must be waged, & the burden of fighting will rest squarely upon your & Arjuna’s shoulders
Arjun pleaded: My dear Krsna, You must give peace a chance! It appears to me that You have already made up Your mind that war is inevitable. O Lord, You are all powerful. If You wish, surely You can convince Kauravas to make a peaceful settlement. Of course, If You desire to fight, I’m ready to follow You in all respects. There is no doubt that evil-minded Duryodhana deserves to be killed by us on battlefield
Playing the part of an ordinary being, Lord Krsna replied: My dear Arjun, I can assure you that I will sincerely try My best to achieve what is beneficial for both of you & the Kauravas. Still, you must remember that human endeavor can only affect things to a limited degree. Ultimately the results of our actions depend upon Destiny. Although I will do whatever is humanly possible for achieving peace, I cannot control providence
It is My firm belief that Duryodhana will never agree to return Yudhisthira’s kingdom. However, I don’t lament for this, because I feel that he deserves to die for having acted inimically towards you & your brothers. Do you remember how, while residing at Indraloka, you were informed that you would be instrumental in the destruction of the Kurus?
Dear Arjun, truthfully speaking, it is My wish that Maharāj Yudhisthira be reinstated as emperor of entire earth. What is the use in maintaining strong hopes for peace?
Nakula said: Dear Lord! Perhaps you can address Duryodhana mildly at first. Then, if needed, You can speak very strongly to make him fearful. Our period of exile has ended & our army has assembled. Naturally, the desire to regain our kingdom has increased. By impressing this upon Kauravas, You can influence them to relent. Of course, we are Your surrendered servants & are prepared to execute Your will unconditionally
Sahadev declared: Even if Kauravas are willing to accept a peaceful settlement, I think they should be incited to fight. The anger we feel, because of how Draupadi was insulted, can only be appeased by witnessing death of Duryodhana & his cohorts
Empathy & compassion are traits which need to be followed by all human beings. But if others consider them as weakness and act inimically and against the Dharmic principles, the punishment should also be given with full force
Ātatāyinaḥ means aggressor. According to law, if somebody comes to attack with deadly weapons, kidnaps your wife, sets fire in your house, gives poison, occupies another’s land & plunders riches, such aggressors should be immediately punished
Let’s be clear about our actions, our roles & our responsibilities
