Solution!
Sātyaki said: Why
should pious Yudhisthira, who fulfilled all conditions of gambling match by
living in forest for 13 years, humble himself by begging for what is rightfully
his? I think that we should send arrows instead of ambassadors to Hastināpur,
for we all know that Duryodhana has no intention of making a peaceful
settlement. If no one else has courage, I’m ready to single-handedly send all Kurus
to the abode of Yamarāja. We should simply tell Duryodhana that he must either
return kingdom to Yudhisthira this very day, or face consequences
Drupada said: I
agree with Sātyaki. It is foolish to imagine that Duryodhana will peacefully
return half the kingdom to Maharāj Yudhisthira. Dhritrāshtra will allow
Duryodhana to do whatever he likes & out of stupidity, Bhishma & Drona
will support Kauravas, as will foolish Sakuni & Karna
What Balarāma has
said is proper if we’re eager to obtain a peaceful settlement. On other hand, I
don’t feel that vicious Duryodhana deserves such gentlemanly treatment. The
puffed-up Kaurav king needs to be brought to his senses. Mild behavior on our
part will only lead him to believe that we are cowards & weaklings. Let us
adopt a hard line. Because war is inevitable, we must immediately try to gain upper
hand
Messengers should be
quickly sent to all great kings of the world so that we can acquire as many
allies as possible & amass our army without delay. We can be assured that
Duryodhana is doing this very thing right now. We must act swiftly, because
etiquette will compel Kings to accept the side that submits its request first. Meanwhile,
we can send ambassadors to Hastināpur. I suggest that my priest be employed for
this purpose. You can instruct him what to say in front of elders of the Kuru
Dynasty
Lord Krsna once
again said: Respected rulers! I feel that Drupada has spoken correctly. Only a
foolish person would not first try to employ political means with hope of
resolving the dispute peacefully. You must also keep in mind that we, the Yadavās,
are equally connected with Kauravas & Pāndavās in terms of family relationships.
We should first send a very polite message to Duryodhana. Only if he refuses
our request, we will consider making preparations of war
In the meantime,
other allies may be gathered, as suggested by Drupada. There is one thing, however,
that all of you may know from Me for certain: If it comes to war, Arjun will
mete out to Duryodhana & his allies their deserved fate. In this matter
there is no doubt
Even when we know
the attitude of someone, we should always give a fair chance to settle the
matter peacefully before it can be escalated to a full-blown confrontation. The
intelligent always resolves issues with minimum resources and time. Of-course
our emotions would try to sabotage the peaceful process, at the cost of
boosting the false-ego, but a calm mind gives strength to look into all-options
We should have
multi-pronged strategies for negotiating to settle the hostilities. Our course adherence
to Dharmic injunctions should be the guiding light and overall good of everyone
involved should be the principle
