One step forward!

Vidura said to Dhritrāshtra: You should not waste your time dwelling upon how your son Duryodhana became spoiled. Even if you can’t understand why it is so, you should conclude that there will be no hope for prosperity if you allow the kingdom to fall in hands of Duryodhan, Dushasana, Karna & Sakuni

You should better give Kuru kingdom to Pāndavas, for it is actually they who are dependent upon you, as if they were your real sons. Dear brother! Pls hear what Atri Muni once said when he was questioned by Sādhyas about wisdom

He said: One should always practice tolerance & forgiveness & abstain from the use of harsh speech. When pierced by arrows of another’s sharp words, a wise person should patiently tolerate them, even if he feels deeply wounded. He must be convinced that if he does so, he will take away his tormentor’s entire merit

A first-class man is well-wisher of all living beings & thus never desires misery for anyone. His speech is always truthful, his behavior very humble, and he keeps his passions under control

The worst of men, however, are those who can never be disciplined. They are disturbed by even small reverses & are easily angered, are ungrateful & never exhibit qualities of a true friendship. Such wicked persons may be able to earn wealth by their cleverness & hard work, but they can never win honest fame or possess good behavior found in genuinely cultured families

Dhritrāshtra said: dear Vidura! Pls describe characteristics of such aristocratic families

Vidura replied: The members of highly cultured families practice austerity & self-control, cultivate Vedic knowledge, perform sacrifices, give charity & marry their children in a purified way. The members of such families can fall down if they become proud & disrespectful towards brāhmanās

One who has little money is not actually a poor man. It is one who lacks good manners, who is impoverished. One who inspires confidence in others is a real friend & not one who creates fear. The sincerity of a friend is tested when service is requested of him. When one falls down from proper behavior, he becomes victimized by grief. Such sorrow is very destructive, as it takes away one’s natural beauty, diminishes strength, clouds understanding & causes disease

We have so much to lose if we do not follow these wisdoms. The value of these diamonds lies in their usage & not just knowing them. We can practically see in all spheres of life, that if these values are not implemented then we are facing so many problems. Businesses, personal relationships, environment, our happiness etc are all affected

The symptom of wisdom is curiosity. To analyze why things are deteriorating & what can be done to improve. "Athato Brahma Jigyasa". Our scriptures answer the inquisitive and all answers can be found in it

The journey of thousand miles begins with one step at a time. Let’s all make a pledge
