When Indra’s wife Saci found him & implored to kill Nāhusa, he said: The King is too powerful for me to defeat, but there is another means to vanquish him. Go to Nāhusa & tell him that if he approaches you while riding on a palanquin carried by great Brahmarsis, you’ll consider him to be fit for becoming your husband
Saci went to Nāhusa, who was very happy to see her & ready to execute her every order. Saci said:O king! I consider you to be a greater personality than Indra. Thus, I want to accept you in a way befitting your superior position. Whereas Indra formerly used horses, chariots & elephants as conveyances, you should have a unique vehicle that is not found anywhere within society of demigods or demons. If you come to me riding a palanquin carried by Brahmarsis, I’d be most happy to submit to you
Nāhusa replied with pleasure: I like this idea very much. As whole universe is under my control, I’ll arrange for Sapta-rsis to carry my palanquin. Pls wait & I’ll come to you shortly. Being intoxicated with false pride, Nāhusa summoned Seven Rsis & demanded that they carry his palanquin
Saci went to Brihaspati & explained her position. The sage gave her assurances & ordered Agni to search for Indra. After Indra was located, demigods went & gave his encouragement
At that time, sage Agastya came and described what had happened. He said: Nāhusa has ordered me & other great Brahmārsis to carry his palanquin. While doing so, we became exhausted & stopped for a while to rest. During break we discussed the various philosophical topics & in the course of our conversation, we happened to question Nāhusa about the authenticity of certain Vedic mantras. The deluded king said: These mantras are not genuine & chanting them will produce no effect
Hearing this we informed Nāhusa that he has become overwhelmed with demoniac tendencies. All great sages in past accepted Vedic knowledge as perfect without any tinge of 4 defects. Nāhusa was possessed with Falsity personified & became angry due to our criticism
At that time, he arrogantly touched me with his foot. Due to this & in consideration of how he had blasphemed Vedas & forced us to carry him as if we were animals, I cursed Nāhusa saying: Foolish king! You’ll immediately fall to earth. Taking form of a giant serpent, you’ll have to remain in an abominable condition for 10000 years before being delivered
Pride comes before the fall. If we consider ourselves higher than the merit & when life inevitable challenges come, we come crashing down by being illusioned. But even after the fall, if we don’t analyze the very reasons of the fall and rationalize our approach to continue our destructive deceit towards ourselves, we are bound for a bigger fall next
Scriptural wisdom of Bhagvad Gita empowers us to fall the false pride inside us by explaining who we really are & what is our constitutional position
We are part & parcel of Supreme Lord Krsna & are his eternal servants
