Be spiritual!

Salya told Yudhisthira: Taking lessons from Nāhusa’s episode, you should not grieve because of miseries you suffered along with your brothers & Draupadi. I assure you that Karna & Duryodhana will be overthrown, just as king Nāhusa was

Yudhisthira said: I’m very grateful to you for the story & humbly request you to somehow dampen Karna’s spirits when you’re called upon to drive his chariot during his encounter with Arjun, to which Salya agreed

Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki) arrived at Upaplavya with an army of one akshauhini. Dhrstaketu, king of Cedis came with one akshauhini as did Jayatsena, king of Māgadha & Pāndya. Thus, including armies of Drupada, Virāta & the 5 Kekaya kings, the allied forces of Pāndavās totaled 7 akshauhinis

On other side, Bhagadatta came to Duryodhana’s camp with one akshauhini, as did Bhurishrāva, Salya, Krtvarmā & Jayadratha. Sudaksina, king of Kambhoja brought an army of one akshauhini, as did Nila, king of Māhismati. The 2 Avanti kings brought one akshauhini each, & there were 5 other Kekaya princes that came with one akshauhini. Adding these Duryodhana’s combined forces came to 11 akshauhinis. Due to assembly of this huge assembly of warriors, Hastināpur became overcrowded & was transformed into a sprawling army camp

Meanwhile, Drupada’s learned priest arrived at Hastināpur passing thro’ vast tracts of land occupied by armies that came to support Duryodhana. Dhritrāshtra, Bhisma & Vidura respectfully welcomed him. In royal assembly, amidst all leaders of Duryodhana’s army, the Brāhmanā spoke as follows: Kindly hear what I say. Because Pāndu & Dhritrāshtra were brothers, their sons should equally share the Kuru kingdom. Is there any reason why Pāndavās should be denied their legitimate paternal inheritance?

And yet it was seen that, even in their childhood, sons of Dhritrāshtra tried so many ways to remove Pāndavās from the scene. The direst & treacherous plans were devised culminating in exile of Pāndavās to forest after a deceitful game of dice. You can all imagine how much suffering Pāndavās tolerated in last 13 years. Still sons of Pāndu want a peaceful settlement so that they can take what is rightfully theirs

O kings, you very well know of Pāndavās incomparable prowess & so I advise you to avoid war that would prove disastrous to your dynasty. If you simply follow dictates of morality & give back to Pāndavās their share of kingdom, so much future suffering can be avoided

Huge lessons on why morality should be established in our societies, establishments, businesses, & nations at large. If we don’t respect the tenets of Dharma, huge catastrophes will happen. In this age of technological connectedness, there are more moral challenges confronting us in every nook & corner of our lives. The temptations are big & the allurements irresistible

We can counter our material vulnerability to temptation and tribulation only by spiritual potential for purification and higher satisfaction
