Action Vs Inaction!
Yudhisthira said to Sanjay: I’m not going to rely upon my own insufficient judgement as what should be done. I will leave everything in Sri Krsna’s hands. He is not only the perfect knower of what is virtuous and what is sinful but also, He is the giver of the fruits of action. Indeed, Sri Krsna is the knower of everything, He is all pervading & is all powerful. He will decide whether it is sinful for me to fight or not. Whatever He orders will be implicitly followed by us, his unalloyed devotees
At Maharāj Yudhisthira’s invitation, Sri Krsna next spoke: My dear Sanjay, you can rest assure that I’m the well-wisher friend of both Kauravas & Pāndavās. As such I desire peace, but at the same time I can see that there is very little hope of coming to a suitable agreement with greedy & envious Duryodhana
How can you dare criticize Yudhisthira by claiming that his intentions are sinful? Do you think that you are better versed in morality than either Yudhisthira or I? You’re foolishly advocating that he becomes inactive, even though work is always far more virtuous than idleness
Simple knowledge is never sufficient. Suppose a person has sufficient understanding of various kinds of food. Still, until he actually eats, his hunger will never be appeased. Of course, if the Pāndavās can find a means of avoiding war, they will surely accept it. Still, considering how Yudhisthira’s kingdom was unlawfully usurped by Duryodhana, it would be far better for him to die for what is rightfully his than allow himself to be cheated
It is Kshatriya’s sacred duty to fight for a righteous cause, just as it is duty of a Brāhmanā to study Vedas. If a sudra were to study Vedas, his lack of intelligence would lead him down the wrong path & thus put him in a worse position than if he had never made the attempt. It is for this reason that Sudras are forbidden to study Vedas. Instead, they are trained to submissively follow brāhmanās so that they can be unfailingly led down the right path
My dear Sanjay, everyone has his respective moral duties. If Dhritrāshtra & other elder Kurus hadn’t allowed Draupadi to be insulted, I could excuse them. But, because they sat silently, with exception of Vidura, as Dushasana dragged Draupadi into assembly, I consider them imbeciles
Krsna says:
niyataṁ kuru karma tvaṁ karma jyāyo hy akarmaṇaḥ
śarīra-yātrāpi ca te na prasidhyed akarmaṇaḥ
Perform your prescribed duty, for doing so is better than not working. One cannot even maintain one’s physical body without work
Work should not be given up capriciously, without purification of materialistic propensities. Anyone who is in material world is certainly possessed of impure propensity for lording it over material nature, or, in other words, for sense gratification
Fake renunciation is not prescribed. Delivering our prescribed duties ( as per Varna-ashram dharma) is endorsed. If we all commit to this, the world would be a much better place to live
