Lust!
Next morning,
Kicaka came to royal palace, just to meet Draupadi. When he once again implored
her to accept him, Kicaka was very pleasantly surprised to hear her say: O Hero,
I’ve decided to accept your embraces, but only on condition that you keep our
meeting secret. I’m exceedingly afraid of being detected by my Gandharva husbands.
Kicaka consented & then Draupadi said: Come to the dance hall after dark,
for I will anxiously await you there
Kicaka joyfully returned
home & began to decorate himself in expectation of long-awaited fulfillment
of his lusty desires. Being absorbed in imagining how he would be able to meet
Draupadi that night, he thought that the day would never end. Draupadi also
found that time was passing slowly, for she remembered horrible things Kicaka
had said & done. She could not wait to see him killed
Draupadi went to
kitchen & informed Bhima about meeting she arranged with Kicaka. As soon as
Sun began to set, Bhima eagerly set out for dance hall & when it was dark, he
went inside. He sat down on fine bed placed there & waited for Kicaka, just
as lion awaits the arrival of deer
At appointed time,
Kicaka arrived dressed & decorated magnificently. Blinded by lust, he
approached the bed where Bhima lay. In darkness, he assumed that the reclining
person was Draupadi & smilingly said: O lovely moon-faced maiden. I’ve come
here after setting aside a spacious apartment for you in my palace, filled with
great wealth & many servants
Bhima sarcastically
said: I’m so fortunate to meet you, for I have heard that as a lover you’re
unrivaled within 3 worlds. Bhima then jumped from bed & laughingly
challenged: You wretch! I’m Sairindhri’s Gandharva husband & I will now
kill you for your wickedness. He then grabbed Kicaka by the hair & a fierce
wrestling match followed
Soon Kicaka was
tired & his entire body trembled. Still to make a last attempt at gaining
victory, he rushed at Bhima & struck him forcefully with knees. Bhima fell
to floor, but quickly got up & slapped Kicaka in chest. He then grabbed
Kicaka & squeezed him in his arms, whirled him around until he lost
consciousness & then violently threw him on ground
Bhima strangled
Kicaka, while simultaneously breaking his limbs with his knees. Wicked Kicaka thus
gave up his life. Bhima angrily pounded his body until it became a formless
mass of flesh
Krsna says:
āvṛtaṁ
jñānam etena jñānino nitya-vairiṇā
kāma-rūpeṇa kaunteya duṣpūreṇānalena ca
indriyāṇi mano
buddhir asyādhiṣṭhānam ucyate
etair vimohayaty eṣa jñānam āvṛtya dehinam
Thus, wise living
entity’s pure consciousness becomes covered by his eternal enemy in the form of
lust, which is never satisfied & which burns like fire. The senses, the
mind & the intelligence are sitting places of this lust. Through them lust
covers real knowledge of living entity & bewilders him
Lust is the symbol
of ignorance by which the living entity is kept within the material world. While
one enjoys sense gratification, it may be that there is some feeling of
happiness, but actually that so-called feeling of happiness is ultimate enemy
of sense enjoyer
