Ram Rajya! Ideal Society

Righteous Vibhishana too, after receiving the wishes from King Rām, returned to Lankā together with the foremost of demons.

Rām, who was of very generous nature, was destroyer of enemies & now ruler of Ayodhya, was very happy & with great delight said to Laxman-O Laxman! The knower of righteousness, rule this earth together with me as it was ruled by earlier Ikshavāku kings. The rule should be as per the Dharmic principles followed by our forefathers without any burden of sovereignty

Rām offered Laxman to become the prince regent, but despite repeated solicitation, Laxman did not give his consent. After repeatedly entreating in all ways, Laxman was hesitant to be appointed as Prince regent, King Rām then asked Bharat to be consecrated. Bharat seeking blessings from his elder brother accepted the responsibility with utmost humility and promised to follow the lineage of righteousness

King Rām then propitiated the gods by performing Paundrika, Ashwamedha & Vajpeya sacrifices. This was to seek blessings from all to be able to run the kingdom for the well being & satisfaction of the citizens. Rām having long arms reaching down to his knees & broad chest, gloriously ruled the earth with Laxman as his companion

While Rām was ruling the kingdom, there were no widows to lament, there was no danger from wild animals, nor any fear born of diseases. The world was bereft of any thieves & robbers. No one felt worthless nor did old people perform obsequies concerning youngsters. Every creature felt pleased & everyone was intent on virtue. When one saw Rām, he was bereft of all anarthas & became righteous. Such was the aura of Rām’s virtues

While Rām ruled, people survived for thousands of years with thousands of their progeny, all free from any illness or grief. When he ruled, the talks of people only centered around him & everyone chanted Rām Rām Rām! The world became Rām’s world & overwhelmed in his consciousness of truth, virtue, principles dovetailed to Dharma

The trees bore flowers & fruits regularly without any injury from pests & insects. The clouds were raining on time & the wind was delightful to touch

Huge lessons for us regarding the elements of Rām Rajya. Chivalrous leaders guided by wise, Self-controlled ministers will ensure the development of a peaceful society

There is a bengali proverb rajar dose raja nasto dose grihastha bhrasta-If the king is not pious, then the whole kingdom is spoiled. So, the king must be very honest, pious, and religious. Such kings were called Rajrsis. Although they are kings, they are great saintly people as well. If the king is educated nicely in spiritual affairs, if he knows what the purpose of kingdom is, then all citizens automatically become religious & purposeful. And if the king is a rascal, naturally all others will follow, and they will become rascals, says Srila Prabhupada

A very Ram Navami to all!
