Impulsive?

Durvāsa Muni said to Kunti: All the trouble you’ve undergone for my sake cannot go in vain. I’ll give you a confidential mantra that will enable you to call any of the demigods. As soon as you think of a particular demigod & recite this mantra, he will submissively appear before you, whether he is willing to do so or not

Afraid of incurring Durvāsa’s displeasure, Kunti couldn’t refuse his gift. The Muni then went to take leave of King Kuntibhoja & left. Kunti began to wonder about the power of mantra she had received & curiously decided to test it. At that moment, she felt that her time of conception had arrived for the very first time. Being a pure & innocent unmarried girl, she blushed with shame & while seated on her bed, she happened to gaze at morning Sun

Kunti became fascinated while admiring Sun’s splendor & then received celestial vision that enabled her to see it’s presideing deity Surya. As she was already under the sway of temptation, she chanted the mantra to summon the Sun God. As soon as she invoked, Surya expanded himself by his power of Yoga, so that he continued distributing heat & light throughout the universe & at the same time appear before Kunti

Surya said to awestruck Kunti: I’m ready to execute your command

Kunti became highly mortified seeing grave result of her impulsive act. She pleaded: O Lord of Sun! Pls forgive me for my childish curiosity. I’m exceedingly sorry to have troubled you & request you to return to your heavenly abode. Don’t be angry with me

Surya said: I gave you the celestial vision to behold me. At that time, you desired to receive a child from me & so I’ll impregnate you. Don’t hesitate to surrender to me, else I’ll become very angry & will curse your father as well as Durvāsa Muni for giving you this mantra without considering your bad character. Look up into sky & see how all demigods, headed by Indra are watching us. If they see that I’ve been deceived by you, they’ll take great pleasure in deriding me

Kunti could see how all demigods had assembled there & became very frightened and ashamed. She begged: Pls return and give up the sinful intention of polluting me. I am an unmarried girl & thus my most important religious duty is to keep my virginity intact. Besides, only the father has the right to give away his daughter in marriage. For this reason, I’m powerless to fulfill your request

Surya said: As you’re an innocent child, I’m treating you very mildly. However, the fact remains that if I leave without uniting with you, I’ll become a laughing stock of heaven. So yield to me & I’ll give you a son as glorious & powerful as I

Again & again Kunti tried to dissuade Surya but he would not relent

Gita says:

uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ nātmānam avasādayet
ātmaiva hy ātmano bandhur ātmaiva ripur ātmanaḥ

One must deliver himself with the help of his mind, and not degrade himself. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well

Rather than be reflective, we are often impulsive and get carried away by externals. If we are reflective aligned to the spiritual core, we can save ourselves from troubles. Let’s monitor & mentor the impulsive self by being a detached observer of situation and evaluate the same keeping higher purpose of life
